(Manchester United 1-3 Crystal Palace) The Premier League season started in the worst possible way for Ole Gunnar Solskjær (47).
– They prepared with four warm-up games. We have only had one. Turned out. We’re way behind, says the Norwegian, who admits that Crystal Palace deserved the win.
– This has made it indisputable that we must improve. Not good enough against any team in the Premier League, the ruthless verdict continues.
Manchester United fans have spent the summer begging for more players, and the cheering is unlikely to subside after Crystal Palace beat Old Trafford thanks to goals, an early goal from Andros Townsend and two goals from Wilfried Zaha.
The latter scored in the 2-0 goal on penalties after the great controversy of the match.
Solskjær was initially unhappy with the fact that the penalty was awarded, after the VAR detected Victor Lindelöf’s hands. Jordan Ayew tried from 11 yards, but David de Gea stretched as far as he could and delivered an impressive save.
But again the VAR was going to come into play: the repetitions showed that the goalkeeper was a few centimeters from the goal line when the penalty was taken, so it was decided that it had to be re-executed.

Then Solskjær’s frustration turned to anger. The Norwegian made a fierce gesture towards the fourth judge and pointed with his fingers that it was only a matter of a slight false start.
On the second try, Zaha took responsibility and doubled the Palace advantage.
– Joke of a judge, joke of a system, joke of a rule = this. A farce, writes Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst Twitter.
After the match, the tone was completely different from Solskjær:
– It was the right decision to take the punishment again.
VG + offers you 60 minutes on Manchester United:
The bright spot on a dark night for United was tapped by summer signing Donny van de Beek, who took advantage of Palace’s sloppy defensive play and scored on debut.
The Dutchman came in from the bench for a Paul Pogba who delivered one of his weakest performances in a United uniform, with several mismatches and an obvious lack of proper fighting form.
In form, however, was United’s longtime talent Zaha, who responded immediately to the reduction with an unstoppable shot from outside the penalty area.
Daily Mirrors lead author John Cross describes the two-goal scorer as “a man on a mission.”
– It was sensational. In his prime, he really is one of the top four players. A brilliant artist, he writes.
Now perhaps United fans have been given a new name to shout if Jadon Sancho is not here.
