This is not the first time waves have hit the building.

– I took a bath today.

Håkon Haakonsen says this about what it was like to be knocked over by a big wave during archery training on Thursday at Karmøy in Rogaland.

Haakonsen, his son and Sander Westerheim had just started training when the front door to the Fredtun activity house slammed shut without warning.

– I crossed and sailed 10 meters into the room along with the water. The other two managed to stay upright, Haakonsen tells VG.

It was Haugesunds Avis who first wrote about the case.

When Haakonsen got back to his feet, the three archers dropped to their knees.

– We had to find the equipment that was in the turbidity of the water. But after a while we started to shake because the water was so cold. Therefore, I had to go home for a trip to change before returning, says Haakonsen.

Similar case in 2014

Haakonsen, Sæle and Westerheim quickly contacted Geir Sommerfeldt, who is the leader of the camp.

He tells VG that the room is 50-100 meters from the sea.

Conditions around the activity house are generally very idyllic, he says. Now the area is full of algae and seaweed.

But this is not the first time the waves have hit the building.

Haakonsen is one of those who has seen what the forces of the sea can do.

– Actually, this was not a surprise. We had a similar case in 2014. What was very special this time was that we received no warning. He said “bang” and then the wave came right away, he says.

“World Star” on a wave

The goalkeeper says he thought about the fact that there were big waves before he went to practice.

– I saw it blowing from the southeast, but it was dry and nice when we arrived today. Also, it has been rectified so that this does not happen again.

Many newspapers have been interested in hearing about the unusual bathing experience, Haakonsen says.

– I have become a “world star” on a wave, laughs.
