Thanks VW e-Golf.
The e-Golf electric car has been an adventurous success for Volkswagen in Norway.
Here VW came out early with an electric car. And in Norway, the country of electric cars, the e-Golf quickly became a true popular car.
It debuted in 2014. At that time, the share of electric car sales was still low. But it wasn’t long before the electric version accounted for a big chunk of Golf sales here at home. It was also crucial to secure the Golf title as Norway’s best-selling car for several years.
It has now been known for a long time that e-Golf is about to disappear. Volkswagen has invested billions in a completely new electric platform. The first to come out is ID.3, which was launched in Norway this fall and in practice replaces the e-Golf.
End of electric golf
But before production came to a complete halt in Germany, the Norwegian importer secured a significant number of cars. Now they are almost completely sold out.
– Yes, right now there are only two cars left in our dealerships. They probably won’t last long, says Anita Svanes, communications director for the Norwegian importer.
At Volkswagen, therefore, it is ID.3 that now applies to the front of the electric car in this class. The brand new Golf 8 does not have an electric version. They choose VW to grow within the ID family.
Now this is Norway’s best-selling car
Two rechargeable hybrids
Therefore, golf days are probably one of the best-selling in Norway. Electric cars now account for more than 50 percent of new car sales in this country, and this will intensify even more in the coming years.
Looking ahead, it is especially our two rechargeable hybrids that will secure the majority of golf sales in Norway. Sales of the Golf 8’s rechargeable hybrids come in after a month and a half with a 75 percent styling 204 hp and a 25 percent GTE 245 hp, Svanes says.

Almost 700 cars on the used market
She adds:
Anita Svanes is communications manager for VW’s Norwegian importer.
– The first demobiles have just arrived in Norway and the rechargeable hybrids have improved their electric range to 71 and 64 kilometers respectively. We have also managed to sell almost 20 Golf GTIs at the same time, and will soon open to order the Golf R.
The high sales of new e-Golf cars in Norway are also reflected in the second-hand market. There are now about 700 cars for sale here.
Prices start at just under 100,000 crowns, then we are talking about cars from 2014-2015 that have often come a long way. Many of these can also be imported second-hand and therefore do not have the same specifications as cars sold in Norway. It is worth checking out if you are considering a purchase.
e-Golf got more equipment and a lower price
I have a longer range
At the other end of the scale, we find what are in practice new cars, with very limited mileage. There is plenty to choose from here in the 300,000-325,000 krona price range.
It is worth noting that the e-Golf in 2017 received a facelift, with improved battery capacity. The first harvests had a range of 190 kilometers, following the rather unrealistic NEDC measurement method.
In 2017, it increased to 300 kilometers after NEDC, which corresponds to 229 kilometers after WLTP, which has now become the standard for all electric cars in our part of the world.
