STAVANGER (VG) (Viking – Haugesund 0-1) Ibrahima Wadji won the match when Haugesund won in Stavanger for the first time since 2015. A solid rematch after defeat in last year’s cup final.
After eight straight games without losing for Viking, Haugesund became too strong in the Rogaland derby. Wadji’s goal in the 24th minute was enough for three points for the guests.
– It was fantastic, we are brilliantly happy with a victory in the derby, says Fredrik Pallesen Knudsen to Eurosport after the match.

He also fired more as he escaped and cheered against the stands after the final signal was issued.
– There will be some layoffs. This is how it should be in the derby. “I applauded maybe too much, I don’t remember very well what happened,” Pallesen tells Eurosport.
The celebration boiled over with several Viking players, including Tommy Høiland.
– When one of his players shoots in front of our fans, we don’t like it, says Tommy Høiland to VG, before continuing:
– I could have done it myself, so I get it. But when it’s a derby and you’ve lost it’s not nice.
Thus, Viking continues their first loss since the 1-2 loss to Kristiansund on August 2.
With three points in the luggage from home to Haugalandet, the guests take a big step towards a renewed contract of the elite series. With eight rounds in the series, they are nine points short to start against qualifying place, and eleven points behind Mjøndalen on direct descent.
Haugesund’s coach, Jostein Grindhaug, is still not sure the venue is insured.
– We have to get more points, otherwise we go down. We chase points in every game that comes. We must have two more wins to be safe, Grindhaug tells VG.
Also, they fly up Viking’s back. The teams stand with 28 and 29 points, respectively, but Viking has one game less played.
Safe wadji
Viking had the first big chance of the match. After a corner to the guests, Viking got great counterattacks and came three against one in attack. Berisha played well for Torsteinbø, who came alone with Sandvik in the Haugesund goal. Unfortunately for the home team, he received a miserable touch and the ball rolled towards the FKH goalkeeper.
After the big opportunity, Viking continued to dominate on the court game, but after 24 minutes it was suddenly reduced to the contrary. Bruno Leite won the ball in the middle before playing for Wadji. The Haugesund striker masterfully passed Axel Andrésson and arrived alone with Iven Austbø.
Wadji showed Torsteinbø how to do it alone with the goalkeeper and passed the ball safely over Austbø.
The rest of the first half wasn’t long, and Haugesund took a 1-0 lead in the locker room.
The second half continued on the track of the first, where Viking had a lot of ball without creating great opportunities.
Call to punishment
After just over an hour, Bjarne Berntsen got tired of what was going on on the field and switched four men at the same time. Samuel Fridjonsson entered, among others, who on the day of the deadline re-signed after six months at German Paderborn.
The substitutions did not help the home team significantly and Haugesund had little trouble defending himself. A corner kick landed on the legs of 17-year-old Sondre Auklend, who jingled. The shot was tough, but Sandvik kept up with a winning save.
– Is big. If I had placed it a little further to the right, I think it would have gone in. I would have liked to see him come in and score my first goal, Auklend tells VG.
In extra time, Auklend was put down in the area, but was not penalized.
– Immediately I think the referee will screw it up. I feel him hit me on the back and naturally I fall to the ground. I think it will explode, but unfortunately it doesn’t, says Auklend.
– It is very possible that there will be a penalty, but I have not seen the situation. I will not deny or say anything else, says Grindhaug.
– It was probably only the referee of the entire stadium who did not see that it was the clearest penalty of this year. I have seen it again on television and it is clear. Cushions the ball, and then they just cut it. It is completely inconceivable that there is no penalty, Viking coach Bjarne Berntsen tells VG.
But there was no penalty and Haugesund scored his first Stavanger win in five years.
– So long ago? Then the time came, says Grindhaug.
– I’m very happy. First and foremost with acting. We hung on the straps a bit in the second half, but they still don’t break us. We endure the worst pressure, and if we are even more precise in the last third we can puncture the game.
On Saturday, Haugesund will be visited by table jumbo Aalesund, while Viking will play Stabæk on Sunday.
