Vålerenga has been informed that the Danish national team players at the club must be quarantined for 10 days. Thus, in the worst case scenario, the club will have to dispense with all three profiles when the league championship in Toppserien is decided on Sunday.

– Doctors from the Norwegian Football Association have informed us that Rikke Madsen, Stine Pedersen and Janni Thomsen must be in quarantine for 10 days from Friday. So it seems that we will have to do without them on Sunday. Then we can play with the ones we have available, sports manager Eli Landsem tells VG.

Vålerenga hopes the final round of Sunday’s series will be postponed as a league championship is at stake after all. The Oslo club lead the series with a better goal difference than Rosenborg and have a point at Avaldsnes.

VG spoke about the consequences for the sprint at the Toppserien yesterday.

– If the message from NFF is that the latest round of the series will go as planned, then we must relate to it. It’s a desperate situation as it’s a league championship to be decided, where we seem to be missing three of our regular players in the first team, Landsem admits.

NFF held a meeting yesterday with all the clubs involved in the gold match. Later today it will be known what the association decides.

– The question is when the quarantine period expires. Basically, it expires on December 6, that is, the same day the game is to be played, and then it is requested at that time. It’s one of the details that we need to have in place before we can make a decision, general manager Hege Jørgensen at Toppfotball Kvinner tells NTB.

You can have problems in the Champions League

The problem with moving the last round of the series is that many teams send their players home after the weekend.

– That’s what makes it difficult, says Landsem. He also fears that Vålerenga will also be weakened when the team plays the round of 16 of the Champions League on 10 December.

That match may also be lost for the three Danes if the quarantine is enforced after tonight’s international match in which Denmark faces Italy in the European Championship qualifiers.

– In principle, the Vålerenga trio will not be affected by the quarantine unless they have been in close contact with the infected players. That’s what we need to clarify, Nils Fisketjønn, director of competition at NFF, informs VG.

Here’s how the gold match will be decided on Sunday:
Vålerenga-Arna-Bjørnar
Klepp-Rosenborg
Sandviken-Avaldsnes
