Recent social security numbers and opinion polls are good news for President Donald Trump.

NEW YORK / OSLO (Nettavisen): The number of first-time applicants for unemployment benefits in the US was much lower than experts imagined and vastly lower than last week.

The latest figures from the US statistical authorities show that the number of new applications for unemployment benefits last week – jobless claims – amounted to 881,000.

On average, experts predicted that 950,000 Americans would file for unemployment benefits for the first time, in which case a decrease from last week’s revised 1,001,000. We must go back to before the crisis of the crown began, to find a correspondingly low number.

Before the summer, the number of new applicants for social security exceeded 1.5 million, and in the worst week at the beginning of the outbreak, a staggering 6.87 million Americans had to apply for social security assistance.

The unadjusted US unemployment rate is now 9%, roughly twice the Norwegian unemployment rate.

On Friday comes what is considered the most important key figure in the world, the US unemployment figures. Large deviations here from expectations can affect the world’s equity markets, because the numbers are an important temperature gauge for the global economy.

Experts expect 1.4 million new jobs were created outside of the US agricultural sector in August, up from 1.76 million in July. Official unemployment is expected to fall from 10.2% to 9.8%.

Still flying

There has been a clear decline in applications for first-time applicants for unemployment benefits since the crown crisis began in earnest in March. But the number is still above the numbers before the crown outbreak and the shutdown of the economy.

The previous record was set in 1982, when 695,000 first applied for benefits during the 1982 economic downturn. A typical number before the crisis began in March this year was just over 200,000.

Trump confronts Biden

Recent figures released Wednesday also show that President Trump is now facing Joe Biden in opinion polls. The FiveThirtyEight poll now shows Biden leading Trump by 7.5 percentage points. He is down from a 9 percentage point lead since Aug. 24.

A survey by RealClearPolitics also gives Biden a 7.5 percentage point lead. Here, Biden receives 49.7 percent support, while Trump receives 42.2 percent support. At the end of June, Biden had an advantage over Trump by more than 10 percentage points.

RCP also gives Biden a 2.5 percentage point lead in the top tip states, which is less than a 3.8 percentage point lead before Republicans held their national meeting, CNBC reports.
