Ugland Jacobsen joins forces with Vidar Kleppe in the Democrats

Ugland Jacobsen was barred from Frp on December 15 and has used the Christmas holidays to find a new political platform.

In a meeting with Kleppe on Monday night, he landed with the Democrats.

– The way forward is for us to meet again after the New Year. We look at the program and subtract a little, add and adjust a little. There will be a national meeting in January, where we will describe an organization that will be at the national level, Ugland Jacobsen tells TV 2.

The aim is to make lists in every county in the country for the parliamentary elections this fall and to get at least one representative in the Storting.

– I’m pretty sure we’ll make it. If not, it’s our fault. It’s about trust. We don’t have much time now, so they have to judge a bit based on what they know about us before and the impression they will have in the coming months, says the former county leader in Oslo Frp.

– Do you think your FRP colleagues will follow you to the Democrats?

– Yes I think so. Many people are waiting for an alternative, and that is why we have taken the time to look for an alternative, and we have found it. Now it is up to us to deliver.

Tone of god

Kleppe sat in the Storting for Frp for two terms, and was also the party’s second vice president for a term. In 2001, he was suspended after party chairman Carl I. Hagen accused him of being a populist.

Democrats won 13.4 percent support in Kristiansand in local elections.

– I’ve always had a good tone with Vidar. He’s a ring fox at the Storting and knows the politics and the rules inside and out, and it’s good to have him with him, says Ugland Jacobsen.

Ugland Jacobsen believes that he himself can help take Kleppe’s party to new heights nationally.

– I have experience in the business world, and I am used to making things fly, and I think we will too.

Unresolved leadership problems

He is making himself available to become the party leader and the main candidate in Oslo.

– It should not be a one-man dictatorship. So that they find the most suitable candidates.

– Is it obvious that Vidar Kleppe will be the leader, or can it be you?

– I say like I did in Frp. We do not anticipate that. It is something that is decided by the national assembly, who will lead the party, and the nomination meeting decides who will be on the lists, he says.

Say hello to Tybring-Gjedde

Kent Andersen, who was a deposed county council member in Oslo Frp, follows Ugland Jacobsen into the Democrats. Nordre Aker Frp leader Arne Østreng does the same.

Ugland Jacobsen would very much like Christian Tybring-Gjedde to do the same.

– Of course, at any time you will be welcomed into the new Democrats, and there you will get a place of honor, but it’s up to Christian. I haven’t spoken to him since the exclusion.

Tybring-Gjedde, who also sat on the county council in Oslo Frp, has not commented on how he sees the “cleanliness” of the FRP leadership.

– He is one of those who has not committed himself to his own principles, as many others have done, and then loses credibility and becomes a weather vane, and has not been a Christian. He has taken difficult steps and has stayed true to his principles and what he believes to be correct and appropriate. There is respect for that and I admire Christian for that.

– Of course I would like to have him in the team, but that will be his assessment. I will not pressure anyone, says Ugland Jacobsen.

Frp competitor

For Ugland Jacobsen, cooperation with other parties is currently a distant thought.

– We won’t have that many friends at the Storting. We will run our own race. Alliances are not something we are going to talk about now.

– Will this be a party that will compete with Frp?

– It will probably be in part. But we don’t see Frp as a main opponent, because it is clear that there is a lot of good living in Frp.

– Will it be a nationalist party?

– Not mainly – nationalism is a loaded word – I prefer to say that we want to take care of the country and prioritize Norwegian citizens before giving resources and money abroad.

Ugland Jacobsen has experience in various roles in the business world and often draws parallels between politics and the market.

– The Norwegian store can be managed much better. There is more to being a nationalist. It is about the rational functioning of Norway. It’s about being realistic and realizing that we don’t have a defense that we can be familiar with. That there is no deterrence and that it cannot repel any attack at all.

New name and new motto

According to Ugland Jacobsen, there will likely be a name change for the Democrats, as part of a reboot.

– It will be exciting in itself what the child will be called. There I heard that good pre-sale part. I’m not sure what the name will be.

He is looking forward to getting off to a good start on party work.

– I really want to do it. First because it’s a wonderfully good environment, lots of competent people, and then I come to a party where there’s very little ideological friction.

– Does the party have a motto?

– Is coming. It would have been almost tempting to adopt the king’s motto, All for Norway, or Norway first. We can chew on that. There will be a national meeting soon and then we will find out. There is a motto, it does.
