Another person has been found dead after the fire of a commercial building in Moelv. Police are investigating whether it could have been a scam and are asking for clues in the case.
The person was found in the ruins of the fire Thursday night. The deceased has been sent for an autopsy to clarify the cause of death and her identity.
The death of another person has already been confirmed following the fire that broke out at the Moelv commercial building in Inland on Wednesday morning. The building is a large room for the winter storage of cars, boats and other types of vehicles.
Police attorney Sten Floor Nelson says one hypothesis is that the fire may have started. When asked if this hypothesis is strengthened after the second finding, he answers:
– We are working with various hypotheses, but based on the fact that we have found two dead, it points in the direction in which we are now facing a criminal case. Other hypotheses are that it could be an accident at work or have started to burn for other reasons, he says.
– Is there anything that could indicate that it is attached?
– At the moment we cannot say anything more, but Kripos helps with the investigations at the scene of the fire. We’ve also ordered a fire dog from Kripos and received signs that it might be in place tomorrow, Nelson says.
Work on the site continues on Friday, as tactical and technical investigations continue. Currently, the police have no suspects in the case.
Now they are asking advice from people who may have made observations in relation to the fire:
“Images and video from the dash cam in cars in the Storgata area in Moelv and Mjøsbrua between 05:00 and 08:00 on Wednesday 30 September are of particular interest,” they write in a press release.
Looking at missing items in the area
The crime scene is large and therefore the police have not had time to search the entire room. It will take time, confirms Nelson. Therefore, they do not rule out that they can find more people.
– Does the discovery of the other person relate to missing persons in the area?
– Not directly, but it’s part of the investigation. We have two lost cases; one in Gjøvik who is relatively new and a person from Nes who has been missing for several weeks. It is currently too early to say whether any of them can be directly linked to the case, Nelson says.
Maintenance man missing
The police attorney confirms that they have been in contact with the owner of the salon. They have received information that a person on Wednesday morning must have performed maintenance on the roof.
This person is reported missing and the car he had at his disposal was outside the hall. Therefore, the police have the perception that one of the deceased is this man.
However, they will not be able to confirm or deny this until the preliminary autopsy report is available. It is not expected before Friday morning.
The man’s relatives have been notified.

The police lawyer says they had to use construction machinery to remove the burned items to make it safe to work there.
– Do you think the man was on the roof when it started to burn?
– The roof collapsed in connection with the fire, so there is speculation, says Nelson.
