Report to Brann on his website. All the team’s joint training sessions have been canceled until Tuesday inclusive.
– Late tonight we received a message from the lab about what we expected, that Bamba tested positive (for the virus). More surprising is that Fredrik Haugen also tested positive, says Brann’s doctor Magnus Myntevik.
– He had an upset stomach during the game on Saturday, but no other symptoms. He played the game without problems. On Sunday, she developed stomach symptoms and has had diffuse abdominal pain ever since. It’s a very unusual disease course for COVID-19, so unusual that it wasn’t thought about until later in the week.
Haugen’s playing the game means everyone associated with the team must be quarantined until Tuesday. The same applies to the Haugesund players who were on the field at the same time as Haugen.
– The Haugesund doctor has been informed, says Myntevik.
Sorry for Haugesund
– We apologize to Haugesund. It’s very boring, even for those who get sick. Show that you are very vulnerable when the infection enters a soccer team, sports manager Rune Soltvedt tells NRK on Friday morning.
He points out that the group of players is not usually isolated, but that the players and the coaching staff are very aware of and are little outside of the people.
On August 14, Gilli Rólantsson became the first Brann player to test positive for the crown. He contracted the infection from close contact. With the positive tests from Bamba and Haugen, Brann is among the most affected elite league clubs.
A junior player at Strømsgodset and Veton Berisha at Viking also tested positive previously.
“Perhaps you have not lived strictly enough, Soltvedt?”
– Of course you have to keep all the possibilities open. We want to comply with the protocols that we are going to follow. My experience is yes, but as I said, this is not total isolation. Then we couldn’t have done our job, says Soltvedt, adding:
– We want to be a club that helps the infection not spread in society.
Cruel fall season
The sports club has delivered a deplorable fall season. The last time the team won was against Stabæk on 24 August.
In the last nine games, the team has taken a staggering four points. This makes Brann the second worst team in the series since Kåre Ingebrigtsen walked through the stadium gates.
If more players could now demonstrate covid-19, the team can quietly reduce in the high season sprint. The team also runs the risk of having to play qualifying on December 22 to avoid relegation.
– It has been a special year. One has taken the other. It was probably just this that was missing to make it even more complicated, says the sports manager.
– Must try to gather energy
He still enters the next six games with optimism and hopes that the team can emerge stronger from the quarantine and illness.
– We can try to use it for something positive on the part of the group. It’s a shame that people get sick, but it’s important that we don’t waste energy because of it. Rather we should try to gather energy and fight in the last six games. So we have to deal with the fighting program as it will be, busy or not.
The next game is against Rosenborg, on Saturday, November 21.
– It will be a good test for us. Then we will see how we have dealt with this. I know this group of players as a professional team, so I think I’m really looking forward to trying to beat Rosenborg.
On Friday, all Brann players will be tested for the coronavirus. Haugen and Bamba are isolated at home and will be there until they recover. The team is in quarantine until Tuesday.
