TV 2 commentator Kasper Wikestad (44) has developed bowel and kidney cancer. He says this to both Dagbladet and TV 2.
– I’ve been through four pretty violent operations. So I need time, says Kasper Wikestad in a joint statement to Dagbladet and TV 2.
– In a way, I was lucky, because the appendix was gossiping about cancer, so they found out pretty quickly. The people of Ullevål are absolutely amazing. Everything from doctors to nurses to physical therapists and others. “I don’t think I’ve met more wonderful people anywhere,” he continues.
Wikestad received the message in early August regarding acute appendicitis, the media write.
The popular commentator is, among other things, very central to TV 2 coverage of the Premier League, and has commented for the channel since 2010. Also in recent years he has had his own television shows and podcasts about the Premier League. In addition to covering the Olympics, ice hockey, snowboarding, and jumping.
– I hope to comment on my first match before Christmas, but I am determined that it may take longer. This was not exactly what I envisioned when I walked in and had a simple operation on my appendix. He expected to be back to normal the next day, he says.
He also shares a photo on his Instagram profile and writes:
– 2020 still had a few fists to dish out. It is difficult now, but the smile will return!
The news has been harsh for fellow TV 2.
– This has been dramatic news that has characterized our newsroom in recent weeks. We try our best to support Kasper and the family, and we try to gather all the good thoughts that this will work out and that Kasper will win this match, TV 2 sports editor Vegard Jansen Hagen tells VG.
