More and more Republicans are congratulating Joe Biden on his victory in the US presidential election, but there is still one man in the White House who refuses to acknowledge defeat.
The president has been a rare sight since the electoral defeat, and rather he has sent his team of lawyers to press charges of electoral fraud.
– The Most Dangerous TV Minutes in US History
At a press conference Thursday, the attorneys claimed, among other things, that Trump beat Joe Biden in a landslide election with no evidence of any significant wrongdoing. Trump’s lawyers spent nearly two hours going through a long list of allegations they believed to be evidence of voter fraud.
The lawyers’ press conference has drawn attention, and now several of Trump’s party mates have had enough.
Goes hard
One of them is Trump’s Republican colleague, former New Jersey governor and Trump adviser, Chris Christie. In an interview with ABC News, Christie takes a hard line against Trump and his legal team after Thursday’s press conference.
– I’ve been a supporter of the president. I voted for him twice, Christie says in an interview with ABC’s “This Week.”
– But the elections have consequences, and we cannot continue pretending that something has happened that has not happened, he continues.
Only these can persuade Trump
– A national mistake
Christie believes that it is time for Trump and his legal team to present any evidence of voter fraud.
“Honestly, the behavior of the president’s legal team has been a national mistake,” he said, referring to attorney Sidney Powell’s allegations of widespread voter fraud at the recent press conference.
– Sidney Powell accused Kemp (Governor Brian Kemp, editor’s note) of crime on television, but is unwilling to go on television to defend and present the evidence he claims to have, Christie is furious.
Dissociates from the lawyer
I disagree with Biden: – Unnatural
Powell claimed that Kemp and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger had received money to alter the election results in an interview with NewsMax television.
The Trump camp on Monday night distanced itself from the lawyer, claiming that she is not part of the Trump campaign legal team, according to Reuters.
Trump has previously referred to Powell as one of his attorneys. He did so most recently in a Twitter post on November 14.
It’s also not the first time that former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has spoken out against the president.
– We cannot support you blindly without evidence, said the party colleague recently.
– Voters spoke
Christie isn’t the only party member who has had enough.
Republican Fred Upton, a congressman from Michigan, has also declared that the election for the president of the state of Michigan is over.
Following Trump’s tenant’s election fraud allegations in the state, Upton has stated that there is no evidence.
Really scary
“The voters spoke, and again in Michigan there is no clear margin, but there are 154,000 votes,” Upton told CNN on Sunday.
He also emphasized to the channel the importance of a good transition process for Joe Biden.
Ask Trump to acknowledge defeat
After a court rejected Trump’s demand to sideline the outcome of the Pennsylvania election, Republican state senator Pat Toomey also backed down. Toomey has not acknowledged that Biden has won the election so far.
In a press release, he congratulates Biden on the victory and asks Trump to acknowledge the electoral defeat.
“To ensure that he is remembered for his outstanding achievements and to help us unite the country, President Trump must accept the outcome of the election and facilitate the transfer of presidential power,” Toomey wrote.
– Time to stop this nonsense
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican, also criticized Trump’s efforts in an interview with CNN. Hogan is a known critic of the president.
So much chaos it can create
According to the channel, Hogan is “embarrassed that various party members are not speaking out” about what he describes as “strange moves” from the Trump camp.
– We used to monitor elections around the world and we were a country that respects elections. Now it begins to seem that we are a banana republic. Time to put an end to this nonsense, he tells the channel.
Trump responded to Hogan, referring to him as just a Republican by name in a tweet. Hogan did not like the response by urging the president to “stop playing golf.”
Trump left the summit early – appeared here
Congratulations Biden
According to CNN, Republican Congressman Paul Mitchell of Michigan, Senator Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have recently stated that the formal transition process should begin now.
Both Collins and Murkowski were two of three Republican senators who did not sign a resolution condemning the Democrats’ investigation into President Donald Trump.
Also, Collins and Murkowski neither did Mitt Romney. Romney is a known critic of Trump and has gone so far as to congratulate Joe Biden on the victory.
Ann and I congratulate incoming President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. We know them as well-meaning and admirable people, has written Romney, who has had major disagreements with Trump. Twitter.
Dagbladet has previously written about whether Trump should acknowledge electoral defeat or not divide Republicans, and now more and more people are turning their backs on the president and his legal team.
