NEW YORK (Daily): More than 80,000 Americans have lost their lives to the coronavirus. More than 1.3 million are confirmed infected. More than 20 million are unemployed. None of this seems to be what most concerns the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
During one twitter storm Sunday, which was violent even to him, was the main focus of Russia’s investigation.
– Thinking about reelection
-Trump has very brief attention when it comes to the corona virus, but he has a very long memory when it comes to Russia. He usually takes things very personally. He is the most reelected candidate of greatest concern, Rutgers University political science professor Ross Baker tells Dagbladet.
To put it mildly, he’s not impressed with Trump’s behavior and handling of the crown pandemic.
– Its management has created monumental problems for the country. The answer has been that one would expect from a third world country. 80,000 people have died, but to the President these are just statistics he can play with and say there could have been a million dead. We have all been disappointed, says Baker.

At 8.20 local time on Sunday, Trump had tweeted and retweeted 52 times. During the first wave of Twitter messages, he also managed to remember what day it was.
– HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! capitalized at 8.10.
At 16, he had passed 100 messages. As the day progressed, he finished just 16 Twitter messages behind his personal record of 142 messages in a single day, which he filed during the court case against him in January.
Except for Mother’s Day congratulations, he was angry and looking in many directions.
His messages about the crown situation were not to show compassion to all who are now suffering. Nor were they attempts to describe how he wants to move the country forward. The Twitter messages were about how well he handled the situation himself and how the golf course he owns in California can now be reopened.
Russia-investigation
The President also managed to attack several television stations such as Chuck Todd, Jimmy Kimmel, and Chuck Stelter, as well as other journalists. But most of all, he was still angry about the Russia investigation.
More than a year has passed since Robert Mueller’s specialist investigator submitted his report. He did not conclude that Trump should be charged with crimes, but documented extensive contact between the Trump camp and Russia.
At the same time, just days after Trump’s own Justice Department announced that they would not prosecute Michael Flynn, who was Trump’s first national security adviser. Flynn lost his job in early 2017 and admitted to lying to the FBI about his contact with Russia.
– The biggest political crime in the history of the United States, by a good margin! Trump wrote in a twitter message.
There, he also claimed a claim by conservative broadcaster Buck Sexton that US President Barack Obama “spent his final weeks as president attacking incoming personnel and sabotaging the new administration.”
He then refuted a series of far-right messages and memes claiming that a conspiracy against Trump has been going on. And he made new attacks on former FBI chief James Comey and Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff, The Guardian writes.
– OBAMAGAR! he was the only one in Trump’s message.
– Chaotic disaster
The president also continued these charges on Twitter on Monday.
At a press conference Monday, Trump was asked about the crime he is accusing Obama of and whether Obama should be prosecuted.
– You will see what happens in the coming weeks. You know what the crime is, Trump replies.
Trump’s reaction comes after Obama last week criticized Trump in harsh words during a private conversation with former co-workers.
– The situation would have been bad with the best government in the world. Due to the thought of this administration, this has been a chaotic disaster. They just think about what will be left behind and hit everyone else, the former president said, according to CNN.
– Lack of leadership
Experienced Democratic poll expert John Zogby believes the pandemic has started to work well.
– Trump’s response to the corona virus is competent, and significant economic rescue packages have been adopted. But the problem has turned into a total lack of Trump leadership, Zogby tells Dagbladet.
List three points for leadership where you think the president has failed.
– First, there is a lack of compassion. Everyone else wonders how they feel. Everyone else pays tribute to health workers and others who work hard. Except for the president, Zogby says and continues:
– Second, there is a lack of clarity. He was not a big fan of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo before, but he has become our Churchill. The President is trying to lead with confusion. We are told to wear a face mask, but he is not. We are told about social distancing, but he is waving. He calls on the country to follow the advice of the authorities, but at the same time supports the protesters. It gives money to the states, but at the same time it tells the governors that they must take care of themselves. Third, a leader must create security and hope in a difficult situation. Trump does not. Instead, it appears to be supporting those who want to attack our top infection control expert, Anthony Fauci, Zogby explains.
– Why do you think he acts this way?
– These are fundamental personality traits that go far beyond what can be explained by political science. But Trump was not ready for this job. He only plays for the top voters and can’t do anything else.
Even the choice
Despite this leadership failure, Zogby predicts a very even election between Trump and the Democrats’ alleged candidate, Joe Biden.
– Trump is behind in the polls, but only by 4-5 percentage points. You would think he was further away from the situation, but for now the top voters are on his side, Zogby says.
David Birdsell is dean of Baruch College’s Maruch School of Public and International Affairs and an expert in political communication.
– There is broad agreement that the Trump administration has done a terrible job in every phase of this pandemic. The only ones who disagree with this are a handful of Republican governors and the administration itself, he tells Dagbladet.
Birdsell believes that the biggest problem is that the administration has not followed the science, that key personnel have been replaced by political personnel and that experience is not valued.
– Even Trump contradicts his own experts and creates confusion. For example, it instructs the governors that it is up to them to direct the reopening of the states. Then call the rebellion against this. It’s absurd. And you shouldn’t even mention how it opened up the opportunity to treat the virus by injecting disinfectant, Birdsell says.
oppression
He believes Trump’s top voters are currently supporting him.
– But we see that older people and women have become more skeptical. Still, this fall’s election is not a “dump” for Democrats. The real question for me is whether we will have a good choice. Trump does nothing to reach a broader group of voters. If it doesn’t exceed 42 percent, it could mean massive attempts to suppress voting among some groups, Birdsell said.
Professor Baker, who is also affiliated with the Brookings Institution and previously worked as a consultant to various Democratic politicians since the 1970s, believes that even Trump supporters now see that this crisis could have been better handled.
– The president has a very solid core of 44-45 percent of voters, so any election will be fair. But the only advantage it had was that the economy was strong. Now he’s gone, which is why he’s so eager to reopen and boost the economy, even though his own experts say it is no longer possible to do so in the third quarter, Baker says.
– Political death
He believes Democrats and Biden should continue to maintain a relatively low profile for now.
– If someone is self-destructive, don’t get in the way, says Baker.
At the same time, he recognizes that it will be a great challenge for Biden and Trump to carry out an electoral campaign during the pandemic.
“But it is especially challenging for Trump, who has used large numbers of crowds as an important part of his election campaign strategy,” Baker said.
The professor also believes that other Republicans may be affected by Trump’s behavior.
– The Republican senators I hear from are very concerned. But they are still trying to figure out how to find a formula to distance themselves, but safely, Baker says.
– Do you think Trump can win reelection?
– I was one of the few who thought he could win in 2016, but this time I think the corona virus will be his political death.
Do you want to argue?
