American expert Eirik Løkke believes the first debate in the 2020 presidential election is difficult to digest.
– Trump’s behavior was a national disgrace. I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like it. There were interruptions and lies about each other, Eirik Løkke tells VG. Løkke is an advisor to the liberal think tank Civita.
It also won’t automatically name Biden as the winner.
– Biden did good … or good. She managed to hold onto him. He was met with a tirade of accusations and lies about the family. He did not have an easy task, but he did not fool himself and that was the most important thing to all who were concerned about dementia. There was no sign of it.

Løkke believes, however, that it was Biden’s own goal that did not condemn Antifa properly. Instead, Biden decided to state that Antifa is not an organization.
– It is not a great own goal, but it is very easy to avoid it.
– Could have ensured moderate
Trump, for his part, stood out for not distancing himself from white nationalists.
– To put it that way, it’s not particularly surprising, but that I’m so vague about this question on the debate stage … I could have assured moderate Republicans, but Trump doesn’t answer questions particularly strategically. If it had been strategic, it probably wouldn’t have appeared in as many interviews with Bob Woodward, Løkke notes.
Løkke’s theory is that Trump possibly tried to make the debate so chaotic that voters who are not particularly interested in politics should lose the rest of their interest and abstain.

Løkke also believes that President Chris Wallace landed a very difficult job, but asked good questions in his search for the right substance.

– It was a national shame, what Trump did, Løkke repeats, before continuing:
– In a way, it wasn’t particularly surprising, but on the other hand, it’s hard to accept that the president of the United States behaves that way. What a disaster for the United States internationally!
– This was a major public relations disaster for the United States, demonstrating the sad state of American democracy, says Eirik Løkke.
– Do you think the debate will affect opinion polls in the future?
– I do not think so. If anything, I think it will have a small impact in favor of Biden, but I don’t think it has much to say.
