After several disagreements between them, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, has decided to fire his defense minister, Mark Esper.
– Mark Esper has been fired, the president of the United States tweeted Monday night.
– I am pleased to announce that Christopher C. Miller, the esteemed director of the National Counterterrorism Center, will be acting defense minister immediately, he adds, and says that he expects Miller to do “a fantastic job.”
The firing is not unexpected, as it has long been known that there have been disagreements between Trump and Esper.
One of the biggest was when Esper declared in June that he did not support the deployment of soldiers to the streets of major American cities to deal with widespread protests against police violence in the United States after George Floyd’s death.
Must have had a letter of resignation ready
Speculation that Esper could be fired has been around for some time. US broadcaster CNN wrote over the weekend that Esper had already started thinking about how he could get a dignified farewell from the White House.
Several Defense Department officials confirmed to CNN that Esper had a long-standing resignation letter in store and that he hoped Trump would pay attention to it after the election.
Esper must have had a desire to stay at work as long as possible. However, ministry spokesmen openly stated that he had no plans to resign.
“Defense Secretary Esper has no plans to resign, nor has he been asked to resign,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffmann wrote on Twitter Wednesday last week.
Later, Politico sent a counter message that Trump had no plans to fire Esper yet.

CNN writes that Esper is also said to have been in favor of changing the names of military bases bearing the names of federal generals, which Trump has made clear he does not want.
NBC, the New York Times, and various US outlets have also written about Esper and Trump’s sick relationship. His future was expected to hang in the balance regardless of the election outcome.
The president himself even gave his own defense chief the nickname “Yesper” during a press conference in August.
– Some people call him Yesper. No. I get along with him. He’s fine. No problem.
When asked directly if he was considering firing Esper, Trump replied:
– I always consider kicking everyone. At some point, that is what is happening.
