US President Donald Trump is opposed to rule changes in the presidential debates, but will likely still face challenger Joe Biden in upcoming debates.

– Why should I let the debate committee change the rules for the second and third debates when I won so easily last time ?, Trump wrote in Twitter On Thursday, shortly after landing in New Jersey, where he was to hold an election rally at his private golf club.

Trump’s campaign staff suggests that the president will participate in the remaining debates, regardless of whether the rules are changed.

– We are ready to move on to the second and third debates. No changes should be made. We don’t want any change, said Jason Miller, campaign communications strategist.

Biden said Thursday that he will participate in the next debate, where candidates will receive questions from voters.

– I think it is appropriate that when a person, a citizen, someone who considers how to vote this year and when they ask a question, the candidate has the opportunity to fully answer, Biden said.

Rule change alerts

The Interpolitical Commission, which organizes presidential debates in the United States, said Wednesday that new tools are needed to maintain order in the remaining debates between Trump and Biden. The statement came a day after the first debate between the candidates on Tuesday was marked by many interruptions, most of them from Trump. Biden was interrupted several times by Trump, before he managed to complete the sentences.

It is clear that “additional structures must be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion,” the commission said Wednesday.

The commission and representatives of the Trump and Biden election campaign team met Wednesday to discuss the implementation of the first debate and possible changes in the upcoming duels.

One of the changes that the commission is considering now is whether the president in future debates will have the opportunity to turn off the microphone when the candidates do not respect the rules and stick to the allotted airtime.

Two more debates

Republicans, Democrats and the president, Fox News’ seasoned television journalist Chris Wallace, all agreed that Tuesday’s 90-minute duel was an unpleasant affair.

“I never dreamed it would go off the rails like that,” Wallace told The New York Times on Wednesday.

The next debate between Trump and Biden will take place on October 15 in Miami, Florida, one of the undecided states where the outcome can be very decisive for the outcome of the November 3 elections.

Prior to the Florida debate, Vice President Mike Pence and Democratic hopeful Kamala Harris will meet for a debate in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 7.

The third and final debate between Trump and Biden will take place in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 22.
