STEINKJER / TRONDHEIM (VG) – No one is entitled to a second chance, Trond Giske said during his speech at the Trøndelag Labor Party on Saturday. AUF left the room when he took the podium.

– In 2017, I made public apologies to those who have experienced bad things with me. The apologies are still pending. He really wanted to lead the Trøndelag Labor Party, but no one is entitled to a second chance, Giske said at the Trøndelag assembly on Saturday.

Giske began his speech by saying that “now we are at the end of the road”, before recounting his motivation for entering politics several decades ago.

When I said yes to leading the Trøndelag Labor Party, it was because the fight against injustice is not over. He wanted to help build a district- and people-friendly party that draws in our Center Party voters, he says.

When Giske took the podium, the AUF representatives left the room.

– We mark our protest against a Storting politician who has not acknowledged that he has harassed young girls, we have no comment other than that, says Håkon Einarsve, leader of Trøndelag AUF.

– I want to do well

Two and a half years have passed since the Labor Party concluded that then-Deputy Leader Trond Giske had violated the party’s guidelines against sexual harassment.

Giske has regretted behaving in a way that some have found inappropriate and unpleasant. She has denied allegations of sexual harassment and has said that several warnings are unfounded and false.

He says during the speech that he had ambitions for the Trøndelag Labor Party to be a winning team, but that he lives well with the fact that it will not be with him at the helm.

– Now I hope that they build the new Labor Party that we propose in the organizing committee and that is approved at the annual meeting. A strong and secure organization where everyone can participate and decide, but also where there is room for people who make mistakes and ask for forgiveness. A party for people, with people but also people. A generous, popular and inclusive party.

Giske ended his speech by saying that he will do well in the future.

– I have married the most beautiful bride in the world, I have two beautiful daughters who make sure that there is sun every day no matter how gray it is. Never before has communion been more important than division, hope over fear, love over hate. A new and fair policy is needed more than ever, and we have no time to waste. Good luck.

Fight for office

On Thursday night, Trond Giske was rejected from the nomination for new county leadership, and Rennebu Deputy Mayor Marit Bjerkås was nominated as the new leader of Trøndelag Ap.

But the election is not carried out without a fight, after at the annual meeting on Saturday there were bench proposals for MP Ingvild Kjerkol, who is challenging the leadership position.

When asked how he felt about retiring, Giske told Adressa.no the day before the annual meeting that he felt he had no other choice.

– The situation where anyone can accuse me of anything without documentation has become too difficult. It is not possible to stand on it. I think everyone understands that, Giske told the newspaper on Friday.

The nominating committee came up with a new recommendation after a week in which, among other things, Sandra Skillingsås (29) appeared on Adressa and spoke about culture at Trøndelag Ap. AUF in Trøndelag subsequently withdrew its support for Giske as the new leader of the county in Trøndelag Ap.

On Friday night, Giske announced on his Facebook page that he will not be re-elected to the Storting.

– The load becomes too large. I feel sorry for everyone who supports me and encourages me to stand up. I would like to follow the call and help build a good and strong Labor Party. Unfortunately, this is not possible, wrote Giske.
