For several weeks, these large boxes have been empty in Tønsberg Square. Yeah, plus all the garbage then.
Because there are many who have obviously thought that the boxes have been something very different from the idea behind the new Torvet furniture.
Tønsbergs Blad was the first newspaper to cover the somewhat comical misunderstanding of passers-by in the city.
Artist despairs: – I don’t understand
– Far from the idea
Urban developer Cecilie Sørumshagen in Tønsberglivet tells Dagbladet that she understands that many have thought these should be used for waste.
– Although it is far from the idea behind it, I think it is better for people to throw their garbage there than in any other place in the city.
It highlights that the garbage has been emptied from the bins every morning.
Now, however, it will soon be impossible to put the garbage into the bins. For today, they are finally used up to what the intention has been all along, that is, for ornamental trees.
The boxes will be placed alongside seats and other plant boxes for larger groups at various locations in Torvet. According to Tønsbergs Blad, the plantation is part of a city center project in which the municipality and the business community in the city center are collaborating.
New York and Oslo
Sørumshagen says that a major street furniture elevator has been built and furniture for less than a million crowns now graces Tønsberg’s cityscape.
– The furniture is from Norwegian Vestre and can already be found in cities like New York and Oslo. It’s fun that we take them to our city too.
She says that the colors of the new furniture in Tønsberg have been carefully selected. They vary in different shades of green, in beige and also have hints of some sunny yellow elements. All of the color profile adopted by the municipality of Tønsberg.
– It has taken a few weeks for everything to be in place, but now it is starting to approach completion. Sufficient furniture in urban spaces is very important. People use them and the city has a much nicer atmosphere.
The placement of boxes and furniture will be completed this week.
Sørumshagen says the project has taken longer than planned due to delays due to the crown.
