Fredrik Haugen and Daouda Bamba tested positive for COVID-19 and the entire team must be in quarantine. The two played this weekend’s game against FK Haugesund, who is also in quarantine.

– Fredrik Haugen was involved in the match against Haugesund and received a test result tonight (Thursday). We are all in quarantine and cannot train until Wednesday next week, sports manager Rune Soltvedt tells VG.

On Friday, all Branns players will be tested for the coronavirus. Sports manager Eirik Opedal at FK Haugesund confirms to VG that they will also be in quarantine until Wednesday. At the time of writing this report, they have not received any positive test results.

– Bamba’s infection occurred in a relationship with a person outside of ourselves. As for Fredrik, he had a bit of an upset stomach before the game and that’s not unusual. Therefore, we do not suspect anything until he played the game on Saturday, but can he has already had symptoms on match day. We regret that Haugesund is also exposed to this, says Soltvedt, who emphasizes that tracing the infection in Fredrik Haugen has not yet been completed.

NFF Competition Director Nils Fisketjønn says this is not unexpected.

– It is a pity that we have been infected in another team. We have also been prepared for that, because the infection is spreading and it is not surprising that we later put it in the clubs. But we have had very few cases, and the clubs have been doing well, Fisketjønn emphasizes, adding:

– This is what we fear every day. More infection makes it harder to complete the series, he says.

However, he does not want to speculate on whether the Rosenborg match will end. If there are more positive test results at Brann’s field, the postponement of that match may become a reality.

Magnus Myntevik, Brann’s doctor and head of the Norwegian Football Association (NFF) medical council, gave Haugen the green light to play the match.

In the protocol that he helped design, it is clear that abdominal pain is one of the symptoms of covid-19 that one should be aware of:

– Was it justifiable that he played?

– Haugen has a little restless stomach before the game and often, and there were symptoms so mild and diffuse that we think it was. This was probably entirely, early in the course of the disease, in addition to the fact that it has been a very unusual disease course for covid-19. If he had had the same symptoms he had the next day, he would not have played the game, Myntevik tells VG.

Soccer has operated under a clear protocol and strict testing regimen since its inception in June.

– I would say it is surprising, but it also shows that we are very vulnerable even though we live with these restrictions. When it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone, says Soltvedt.

Haugen and Bamba are isolated at home and will be there until they are healthy. Brann will face Rosenborg on Sunday, November 22, and Brann is planning on the basis that the match will go as planned, says Soltvedt.
