Mikkel Niva and Jonas Kinge Bergland say they have rarely had as much fun as filming the comedy hit “The First Time Service.”
On Friday, NRK released five of the ten new episodes of “The First Time Service.” In the series, comedian Herman Flesvig plays various characters from the series he created himself, and in January he set a viewer record with two pilot episodes of the comedy series.
One of the actors who has appeared in the series is Mikkel Niva (32). He says it’s weird that he’s been on a set where people have so much fun.
– Every time Herman did something new to make laughter so loose throughout the gang. Do you know when people are tired of laughing spasms? This is how I experienced it, he tells VG.
– 70 percent support contact
In the series, he plays the recruited character Lauritzen.
– Lauritzen seems to be very kind and innocent, but deep down he’s probably a very dirty guy, as Tanja suggests. It’s probably some kind of weird and weird romance, he says.
Niva says that they often came up with things during filming, and that a lot was said that is not written in the script.
– It’s especially when Herman starts in the second round of taping that all the fun comes, he says.
Niva says that he and Flesvig are first of all colleagues, but also very good friends.
– I have a theory that they actually only brought me in so he could have me on set. I was close to admission, but they always asked me to stay longer. I’m a 30 percent actor and 70 percent support contact, he laughs.

– You probably like that power
Niva believes that Flesvig may have considered a security to have him there.
– He has had very little time to be himself in all this and in all these characters. So I think I also had a need to be “Herman hanging out with friends,” he says.
He also believes that Flesvig has taken the opportunity to “fuck” with him on set.
– He has had 100 percent control to do what he wants with me, and he probably likes that power, he says, adding that it has led to many funny scenes:
– Personally, I think it was a lot of fun being thrown on the ground and piled up, he says.
Lots of improvisation
Another collaborator on the series is comedian Jonas Kinge Bergland (42).
– We were mainly in a giant disused military camp on the outskirts of Hønefoss. Lots of abandoned buildings and a very strange post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Also, everyone who worked with the people was very nice, he says.
Bergland knows Flesvig from before and remembers Flesvig once mentioned that he wanted to do a military series and suggested that Bergland could join.
– I didn’t think much about it at the time and I probably answered something or another that “yes yes, it will probably be fun”, and I thought that this will probably be none, he says.
Bergland says he had a lot of fun playing against Flesvig, and that every shot was always a little different, due to improvisation.
– Otherwise it was fun to walk around in uniform and pretend you had power over people, he says.
Cracking multiple times
In the series, he plays the character of Lieutenant Støland.
– He’s a guy who’s been an idiot officer for so long that he thinks everything is boring, but he would like things to be done correctly, he says.
Several times he struggled to keep the mask on during filming, especially in the scene where he hands a scout hat instead of a beret to Flesvigs character Lillehagen.
– We probably did that scene 15 times, and Herman did it a little differently each time. I broke up together a good number of times, he says.
Although Niva and Berglang are fans of all the characters in Flesvig, they both have a favorite: Paul Jefferson, the American survival expert.
– Sour regurgitation, authority and Norwegian-American accent. So my mood, says Niva.
– I also laugh a lot at Lohrengren, where I think Herman is completely crude to get little details in facial expressions and word choices that make the character surprisingly believable, says Bergland.
– Why do you think the series has worked so well?
– It’s a perfect premise. First-time service is something that most people have a relationship with. And putting different people in a challenging situation and seeing how they cope is a very good starting point for creating humor, says Bergland.

– You have a tough humor and then you can laugh a bit at Bærum and the rich. Also, these characters have a sincere need to reach out to other people. They are fun, but also vulnerable, says Niva.
Now they are both eager to see the remaining five episodes that will be released next Friday.
– It was completely hysterical watching the scene with Bård Tufte as Laila’s mother. Both Herman and Bård improvised a lot, there were many takes and the entire band on the recording laughed to death after each take. I really want to see it on television, says Bergland.
