The age group between 16 and 19 has the highest proportion of infected per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the municipality of Oslo.

– We see that many schools in Oslo have infected both employees and students. A significant number of students and teachers are in quarantine. We cannot risk the infection spreading among young people while the rest of society is closed, says City Councilor Raymond Johansen.

These are the new measures:

  • Introduces the level of red infection control in high schools.
  • Introduces the prohibition of all indoor leisure activities for young people from 13 years.
  • Prohibition of indoor cultural activities such as choir, choir and theater. The same applies to organizational meetings and other youth activities.
  • It closes the leisure clubs in Oslo for ordinary activities, the cultural school for children and young people of secondary school age or older.
  • Training in handball, gymnastics, ice hockey, volleyball and the like will end tomorrow.

The prohibition does not apply to children of primary school age or to outdoor sports.

The new measures will have an initial duration of two weeks.

– It is about avoiding complete shutdown. At this point, the infection arrow points upward and can quickly go from bad to worse. If we don’t reverse development, we could end up in a situation where we have to shut down everything, says Johansen.

– We would have liked to have avoided leisure activities for children and young people from downtime, but with the current situation it is not possible.

Around December 1, the municipality will make a new evaluation of the measures that are applied now, and will decide what will apply until Christmas.

In addition, the measures that are already in force will continue.

The Oslo social closure came into effect on Monday.

Laundry stops, canceled events, and gym closings were some of the biggest measures.

More homeschooling

The red level means more homeschooling than usual. Students should also break into smaller groups and be more outdoors.

– It is important to emphasize that the red level does not mean closed schools. We are going to go red to avoid having to shut down completely, says Councilor for Education and Knowledge, Inga Marte Thorkildsen.

Since before, all upper secondary schools in Oslo are at a red level.

– The red level will make the job of tracking infections easier and mean fewer schools will end up in quarantine, which is a heavy burden for employees and students today. I hope the period with the red level is as short as possible, says Thorkildsen.

The primary level continues at the yellow level.

Intervention measures

The social closure of Oslo lasts until November in the first instance.

Several municipalities around Oslo have been leveled with the capital. Among them are Asker, Bærum, Lillestrøm and Nordre Follo.
