KOLDING / OSLO (VG) (Hungary 21–32 Norway) Hungary had no chance against sovereign Norway in the last match of the main round. Denmark now awaits the semi-final of the European Championship.

On paper, the fight against Hungary meant little. Norway was ready for the semi-finals after the big win against Croatia on Saturday, but the handball girls still finished the main round in style.

In the end, it all ended 32-21. Norway has so far been superior in the European Championship and won all their matches in a big way:

Now a more difficult task awaits him in the semifinals.

There awaits the host nation Denmark, who beat Russia in their last match of the main round. In the second semi-final, France and Euro sensation Croatia will square off.

– Hears! It is true? It’s super impressive for Denmark and it will be fun, says a surprised Nora Mørk about the semi-final right after the match.

She doesn’t think the Danes will have a home advantage in a championship without an audience, but she has been impressed by their performance.

– They’ve really taken a lot of steps lately. I think Denmark has a very good team and they are big and strong in central defense, so it will be a fairly open game. There will be a lot of nerves, says Mørk.

– There will probably be an over-ignition on both sides, as it usually is, says Camilla Herrem, who had faith that Denmark would defeat Russia.

– It will be very exciting. They got a comfortable victory over Russia, but we must be prepared. We love playing against Denmark, says Stine Skogrand.

– I think Denmark has a very good team, but we do. And we are looking forward to winning that match, says Heidi Løke.

From the beginning it was clear that Hungary had no chance against the fast Norwegian players. Eight minutes passed before the Hungarians scored their first goal, and at half-time it was 17-9. That was after a game with very good goalkeeping play by Silje Solberg, a good Norwegian defense and several counterattacks.

It gave space to give more time on the field to several of the players who have played little in the European Championship, including 191cm tall Kristine Breistøl. He distinguished himself with three goals from a distance.

– We are off to a fantastic start and I think it’s very positive that more people are trying. Breistøl was raw, Herrem says of the match.

And now the semi-final against host nation Denmark awaits on Friday night. Norway has the statistics on their side:

Norway have won their last 13 matches against the Danes. To find the previous defeat, we have to go back to the previous phase of the European Championship in 2014.
