NICE (VG) Dag Otto Lauritzen (63) was going to join the Tour de France for the 28th time. Now, instead, he is recording a new season of “Kompani Lauritzen”.

Because when the Tour de France was postponed until the end of August, it ended with a total collapse in the schedule of the popular TV profile 2. Yesterday he arrived in Åndalsnes where he will spend four weeks as a colonel in the second season of the reality show Kompani Lauritzen.

– It’s special and really a little sad. I would have liked to be in France, but I feel like Kompani Lauritzen was a certain success, and then we couldn’t change the plans that had been made, Lauritzen tells VG.

He has participated in the Tour de France eight times as a professional cyclist. Since then, he has covered the race in France 19 times as an outgoing reporter for several different outlets.

Now the focus is on the work that awaits the next four weeks. But Lauritzen will miss the working environment in France.

– We have a lot to do from morning to night here we are now, but I have to try to find some channels to get information. Maybe you watch a replay of the last half hour every day and talk to people in France, Lauritzen says.

– The coronavirus is spreading rapidly in France now. Would you have left if it had fit?

– I’m not the type to be scared and hysterical, so if I hadn’t been here, I would have wanted to travel. But he couldn’t travel and feel the pulse of people’s lives, so it hadn’t been the same.

TV 2 broadcasts a very small team to this year’s Tour de France: Christian Paasche and Johan Kaggestad comment from Oslo. In France, there are only two journalists, two photographers, in addition to Thor Hushovd.

Sports editor Vegard Jansen Hagen believes that it is not possible to replace Dag Otto Lauritzen:

– But if Dag Otto is going to miss the Tour de France once, this is a good year. He is a hugging acquaintance who loves people. So it’s okay to have it at home when the pandemic hits, says Jansen Hagen.

Dag Otto Lauritzen didn’t think the Tour de France would go off the rails. On Friday, more than 7,000 new infections were recorded in France. This is the highest number since the end of March.

– Is it okay to complete this race?

– This is a question that many ask themselves. The Olympic Games and the European Soccer Championships were moved. I’m not sure you can complete this race, although I hope so, and that doesn’t help spread the infection. But there are people from 30 countries and certainly also a large audience, says Dag Otto Lauritzen.

The Kompani Lauritzen final was watched by almost a million Norwegians. Which contestants will be in season two has yet to be announced.
