Eirik Jensen was convicted by a unanimous appeal court for flagrant corruption and complicity in the importation of drugs. The Supreme Court has finally ended the nearly seven-year-old case against the former police chief.
The Supreme Court Appeals Committee has decided that Jensen’s appeal will not be allowed.
Therefore, the judgment of the Borgarting Court of Appeal of 21 years imprisonment and confiscation of NOK 1,418.00 stands. Jensen has been in custody since he was arrested during sentencing and will now begin serving his sentence.
The Appeals Committee writes that its overall assessment is that the Appeals Court ruling is well structured and very comprehensive.
“In an allegation that the Court of Appeal to Jensen’s detriment has applied an incorrect evidentiary requirement, the Appeals Committee has observed that the grounds of the Court of Appeal ruling, on the contrary, leave the impression that the Court of Appeal Appeal has exercised great care in evaluating evidence and that the grounds do not provide evidence. Reasonable doubt will benefit Jensen, “the appeals committee writes in a press release.

Elden: – Doubts that the last word has been said in the case.
Jensen’s defenders also said the verdict was based on improper application of the law regarding what is considered complicity and flagrant corruption, but did not receive the support of the appeals committee. The Appeals Committee also does not believe that a procedural error was made.
– We are on our way to inform you of the appeal committee’s decision. It is disappointing that they have not been opened for consideration of the case in the Supreme Court, but I doubt that the last word has yet been said in the case. Jensen still does not know from reading the verdict how he should have participated in the import of hashish, and cannot understand why he should be refused to verify whether the phones and text messages used against him are genuine and complete, said the Jensen’s defender, John Christian Elden, to VG. .
On June 19 of this year, the Court of Appeal found Jensen guilty of complicity in the importation of almost 14 tons of hashish. He was convicted of serious corruption during the same ten-year period after receiving around NOK 1.4 million from Gjermund Cappelen. This was payment for taking a protective hand of the police over the hash baron drug business.
Jensen has always asserted his innocence and appealed the verdict on the spot.
Background: Therefore, Jensen was convicted in the Court of Appeal.
It has been almost seven years since Eirik Jensen was detained by several police officers in the basement of the parking lot of the Oslo police station, early in the morning of Monday, February 24, 2014.
Then, for several weeks, he was suspected of being corrupt and helped hash baron Cappelen introduce tons of hash.
Since then, Jensen has fought his way through a disappointing district court ruling, a ignored jury verdict, and eventually; an overwhelming verdict from the Borgarting Court of Appeal.

The Oslo District Court was very clear in its 2017 ruling: Jensen has intentionally and systematically contributed to Cappelen’s cannabis import, and most of his explanations have not been credible. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison.
The case was appealed, and when the first round of the Court of Appeals took place in the winter of 2018 and 2019, the jury acquitted Jensen of complicity in importing hashish. They still found him guilty of gross corruption.
The judges, on the other hand, believed that the two positions go hand in hand and that corruption would not be possible unless he was also convicted of complicity in the importation of cannabis. They set aside the jury’s decision.
