The debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden on October 15 will be canceled after the candidates have refused to participate on each other’s terms, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Current President Donald Trump, who has declared himself not infected, declined to participate in a video debate, while Democratic challenger Joe Biden has denied that it is appropriate to meet the president face-to-face due to his corona disease.

“I’m not wasting my time in a video debate and sitting behind a computer screen, it’s ridiculous,” an outraged Trump said in a phone interview with Fox News. It later became clear that he would hold an election campaign event on October 15 instead.

– The president changes his mind every second, Biden responded, to which his election campaign team added that Trump “obviously does not want to face questions from voters.”

With Trump refusing to run, the commission organizing the debate has decided to cancel it, the Wall Street Journal reports. The commission confirms this to the AP news agency.

The decision to cancel the debate came the day after the commission decided to hold a virtual debate.

The White House took a hard line against the decision, noting that the president’s doctor has given him the green light to resume his public duties again this weekend.

The organizer replied, however, that it was not appropriate to have a physical debate. They referred to the infection control rules for so-called town hall debates in which the audience was scheduled to ask questions of the candidates.

The first debate between the two fighting cocks, which took place at the end of September, has been described as the worst television debate in history. It was marked by misinformation, insults and interruptions.

The debate scheduled for Oct. 22 in Nashville has not yet been canceled.
