People from Kløfta, a town near the landslide-affected Gjerdrum municipality, flock to light candles and show their support on Saturday night.

Along Gjerdrumsvegen and Kløfta, a row of candles several hundred meters long have been lit. Also in the roundabout where the road begins, the neighbors show support with lit candles.

One of those who has made the trip is Aina Hugdal. She takes her son with her and stands by the road with shooting stars.

– We want to show that we stand in solidarity with them. It is a terrible and incredibly tragic tragedy how many people are missing and what has happened, Hugdal says.

She explains that many of those who live in Gjerdrum pass this road.

– We have lit candles to show them that you care.

On Saturday night, three people were confirmed dead following the landslide. Seven people are missing.

– We are so close

Hilde Nordgarden, who lives near the road, is one of those who took the initiative to light candles. He did it in the Facebook group “What’s happening in Kløfta”.

– We are very close to Gjerdrum. We have friends in Gjerdrum. Therefore, it affects us strongly.

Seven people are still missing after the landslide that took place in Gjerdrum on Wednesday. The first deceased was found and transported out of the area of the landslide on Friday.

– I have talked to people who know people who have left. We would like to show compassion. There’s very little else you can do except do something to show that we care, Nordgarden says.

Several hundred meters

Nordgarden says he went out with his daughter Sigrid Børtnes (15) on Friday night and lit some of the first candles. Now the light link is several hundred meters long.

– Is very pretty. I never thought it would be that long, but I have noticed that others have taken the initiative to get the business community to donate light.

Gjerdrum’s Deputy Mayor, Leif Haugland, says they appreciate the lighting.

– It is touching how the locals get involved with those who miss or have lost someone.

Police were notified of the landslide in Gjerdrum at 03.59 on Wednesday night. Since then, there has been an extensive rescue operation in the Ask landslide area in Gjerdrum municipality.

Correction: An earlier version of this case said that Kløfta is the neighboring municipality to Gjerdrum. Is not correct. Kløfta is a town in Ullensaker Municipality, which is the neighboring municipality to Gjerdrum Municipality.

The candles are also lit in the center of Ask:
