“I want to give an update on our ongoing work to uncover extensive electoral fraud and irregularities that took place during the ridiculously long elections,” President Trump said in a speech from the White House on Wednesday night Norwegian time.
This was followed by a series of unsubstantiated allegations of electoral fraud.
He claimed, among other things, that Biden had rigged the election in advance and therefore did not need to participate.
– My opponent was asked to stay away from the elections: “Don’t campaign, we don’t need you, we are in control. This election is over,” Trump said.
– Pathetic therapy class
A large number of election leaders, the Federal Election Commission and Attorney General William Barr have said they have found no evidence of widespread election fraud or attempted election fraud.
– Undemocratic
American researcher Hilmar Mjelde from the Norce research institute writes in an email to Dagbladet that there is little point in arguing with Trump.
– The United States only has to deal with the fact that it has an irrational and undemocratic president who lives in an alternate reality where the north is the south and the black is white. It has nothing to do with trying to argue against him, Mjelde writes.
He believes this is conspiratorial.
– Makes a non-falsifiable claim that the election was rigged. It is typical of a conspiracy theory like this that evidence to the contrary is not accepted, Mjelde writes.
Promises to leave the White House
The pandemic is sweeping
The United States has recorded by far the most cases of infection in the world. At the time of writing, the country has nearly 14 million confirmed cases and nearly 274,000 related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
There are around 100,000 more deaths than the next country on the list, which is Brazil.
– Everything becomes more absurd given that the pandemic is devastating at its worst. Trump isn’t even trying to do the job he’s desperately trying to keep. While Trump is trying to reverse the election result, the message for the United States is that the people can only fend for themselves, Mjelde believes.
Mjelde is also clear that he doesn’t think Trump’s allegations of voter fraud will go away immediately.
– Not welcome in New York
– The madness will continue until the Constitution separates him on January 20, when his term in power ends inexorably. The rightful winner of the election, Joe Biden, will take over as president, that’s 100 percent for sure.
– Designed to protect
Mjelde also writes that American citizens should be happy with the way they have organized their political system.
“Federalism and the division of power at the national level assures states, Congress, and the courts the necessary room for maneuver to resist Trump’s attacks on democracy,” Mjelde writes, and concludes:
In reality, the system was designed to protect American democracy from a president like this.
