The minister recently alerted the police and defense and security services to a note calling for “individual jihad” against various proposed targets, according to Le Figaro.
The notice was sent on Sunday, October 25.
According to the newspaper, the current memo comes from the Thabat news agency, which has close ties to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.
There, he is said to have been called upon to carry out individual attacks to attack France. Churches, resorts, embassies and imams supporting the French president were on the list of proposed targets, the newspaper writes.
They must also have proposed specific methods, such as knife attacks and crowd collisions.
On Wednesday, three people were killed in a knife attack at a church in Nice. At the same time, a security guard was injured after a knife attack at the French consulate in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
The motive for the attacks is not yet known, but French authorities have confirmed that they are investigating the attack in Nice as terrorism.

He asked for “greater vigilance”
According to Le Figaro, Thabat’s note was the background for French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin to warn administrative leaders across the country last Sunday of a greater terrorist threat, especially against religious institutions.
In the internal document, to which the newspaper has had access, Darmanin refers, among other things, to the ongoing cartoon dispute. It also calls for greater vigilance and stricter security measures.
Although police were unable to prevent the attack in Nice, Le Figaro writes that increased surveillance may have led to the arrest of a radical Islamist with a knife in central Lyon early Wednesday.

The attack comes after several days of protests in countries with large Muslim populations, after President Macron defended the publication of the Muhammad cartoons.
On Wednesday, satire magazine Charlie Hebdo published a cartoon of Turkish President Tayyip Recep Erdogan, prompting strong reactions in Turkey.

According to the Reuters news agency, the perpetrator has been identified as a 21-year-old man from Tunisia. He must have acted alone.
Several international and French media write that the 21-year-old arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa in September, before moving to France in October.
“France is under attack,” French President Emmanuel Macron said after the Islamist terror attack. At the same time, it raised the level of security in the country.
This means that security in schools will be increased and soldiers will be deployed, among other things, to protect churches. The total number of soldiers increases from 3,000 to 7,000.
“This means that we will be able to protect all religious sites, especially churches, of course, so that Halloween can be celebrated in the right circumstances,” Macron said early Wednesday.
