Former Swedish national team player Fredrik Larsson died Tuesday in a car accident in Lerum, just outside Gothenburg, Aftonbladet writes.
The 36-year-old truck was hit by a truck while on a bicycle. The death is being investigated as gross negligence in traffic resulting in death.
– This is a painful nightmare. There are no words to describe what a great man he was and how big his heart was. He was a team player in every way, and he put the family first, his wife Malin Pettersson told the newspaper.
No one has been arrested so far, according to Aftonbladet.
– It’s incredibly sad. Only 36 years old … It is a tragedy. My thoughts go to his family, says Ola Lindgren, who was the national team coach when Larsson represented Sweden at the European Championship in 2010 and at the World Cup in 2011.
Larsson scored a total of 36 international matches. He played for clubs like Skövde, Ystads IF, Hammarby, Sävehof and Alingsås.
