The feeling of the end of the world is there. Pandemic and riots. Sharp increase in homicides and other serious crimes. Record unemployment and an economy that collapsed as the virus ruthlessly wiped out American society. Another hurricane is expected to arrive in the next few hours. Once again, it looks like New Orleans may be hit hard.
The invisible infection
The streets of the city are empty. Restaurants and bars closed. The stores are over. The windows are nailed down. Some for good. The mentally ill, those who have not been cared for by the health service, are anxious. Suddenly they have the streets almost to themselves. They walk screaming their frustration, fear and anger. Where did it all end? What happened?
On Sunday, the president violated Nevada state rules not to gather more than 50 people in the same place. Trump also challenged his own administration’s infection council. Several thousand people, most of them without masks, came to pay tribute to their leader. Indoors. Densely. When asked if he did not fear the danger of infection, Trump replied that no one approached him more than two meters. So he himself was safe.

That it has done everything possible to reduce the risk of infection and that no other country has handled this as well as the United States. According to the Johns Hopkins University survey, 6.5 million people have been confirmed to be infected.
The chose
They call it the most important presidential election in history. Donald Trump does it and Joe Biden does it. Voters and experts do. No matter who they prefer, most people seem to agree on that. In 50 days it will be decided. Then the Americans decide whether to allow Joe Biden into the White House or to give Donald Trump renewed confidence.
The 45th president of the United States has said that he does not believe the conclusions of experts that climate change, at least largely, is man-made. In November, the United States withdraws from international climate work. While the west coast is on fire and hurricanes are in line, Trump’s climate message may not convince voters.
Trump gets little help from the circumstances. The base supports it, but it is not big enough. Biden still has a comfortable lead in the polls. If Trump wants to win, he must win over the skeptics, those who for whatever reason haven’t decided yet.
All three presidential debates could be the rescue of Donald Trump. Then he is brought face to face with his opponent. It will be his great opportunity to convince voters that he is the right fit. The first debate is in two weeks.
