The Covid-19 pandemic is gaining momentum in country after country in Europe.

France had 854 deaths per crown on Tuesday, the worst number in a single day since April 15. 26,000 people were hospitalized with the virus.

President Emmanuel Macron on Friday launched a shutdown of the country for one month. This to the great frustration of a people who think they have had enough of those days.

The UK had 397 deaths on Tuesday, the worst since May. Boris Johnson, the previously pressured prime minister, had to go to the House of Commons on Monday and announce a new shutdown across the country.

Pubs, restaurants, and gyms should be closed starting Thursday, but schools and universities will remain open.

From midnight, the British health service goes to the highest level of readiness, level four. This is stated by the British health director, according to Sky News.

The epidemic had developed at a rate that was worse than the most pessimistic scenarios of the professionals, according to Johnson.

Before the weekend, the BBC had access to government documents suggesting that the death toll could be worse than in the first wave of the epidemic, if the government did not introduce strong measures.

The numbers are worse than even experts feared, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Here, on the way to a government meeting at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday. Photo: AP / NTB scanpix

Worst development in the Czech Republic and Belgium

The EU’s public health agency, ECDC, has recorded a total of 7.8 million cases and 225,000 deaths from covid-19 in the EEA area since the pandemic began.

Britain is among the worst affected countries in the world. They now have more than a million cases and 47,000 deaths.

Italy, France and Spain are targeting 40,000 deaths per crown.

The infection is now spreading faster in the Czech Republic, followed by Hungary, Romania, and Poland.

Germans worried

Germany recovered better than most through the first wave of the Quran in the spring, but now concern is rapidly mounting here as well. On Monday, there were 80 deaths from covid-19 in the country.

Researchers at the Max Planck Institute warn that this number will increase markedly in the coming days, regardless of the success of the intensified measures against the crown. Only a couple of weeks late are the positive effects of them expected to be seen, writes Der Spiegel.

Restaurants, bars, theaters and gyms are closed. Private parties are not allowed, but schools and shops can remain open. Family members of different generations will still be able to visit each other.

– Christmas will also be marked by corona measures, but that doesn’t mean it should be a lonely Christmas, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday.
