Me! I read in the newspapers that you want to remove a “racist bench” in the Botanical Garden. What really happened?

– I am a politician from the city of Old Oslo, and I was contacted by a person who told me about this bank and Carl von Linné’s tribute in it. The person wondered if he could do something.

So …?

– Then there were several young people who mentioned it to me. They thought it strange that he had received such a tribute. This is how we propose it at the town hall.

And what did you decide?

– That the city council will strongly encourage the Board of the Natural History Museum and the UIO to withdraw the dedication to Carl von Linné.

Ahh. Shouldn’t you remove the bank?

– No, no one has suggested it.

Couldn’t you have said that the bench is racist either?

– No Yes. Haha. But the media wrote it.

Was Carl von Linné a racist?

– I didn’t know the boy. But what he has done is categorize people into races, where he gave them characteristics. Blacks have negative qualities, while whites are smart. The way I see it, it is racist to systematize people that way. If this work is done out of love, then it has been out of love for the whites, not those at the bottom of the ladder.

So what should happen to the bank?

– The bank must be standing there. But dedication does not inform about this part of his work.

Maybe not many people knew about this before this debate?

– Single. That way I am happy. I myself have had about Linnaeus, when I studied medicine. At the time, he didn’t know about that side of him.

If you could choose one person who should receive a public tribute … Who?

– I think it would have been great if we did a tribute to Elsa Laula. A completely raw South Sami lady, who organized the Sami fight and started the world’s first Sami association.

But you, it’s been a bit unusual week, this?

– That’s right. I was at a seminar this weekend and I was going to give a presentation. But just before going on stage, I started getting messages that I was a bull and that I had to leave the country. Then I realized that Document had written about me again. And after that, just use the ball. I wish the other issues we presented at the town hall received the same attention.

Is it a bit fun too? That people feel so … offended?

– Well. The sad thing is that the young people who came into contact with this case, see how we come across hate, racism and incitement. I think the proposal is reasonable, but a much bigger problem than that dedication is that people are afraid of raising these issues.

Is it getting harder to be anti-racist?

– Yes, definitely. I tolerate disagreement, but when there is pure and unreasonable racism, and those “just wait and see” messages … When people actively search for me on social media and mobile, it becomes a problem for my safety and that of my family.

Now, some questions fixed. Which book has meant the most to you?

– Book for my sister, Nina Bahar. It hasn’t come out yet, but I’ve read the script. It’s about … surprisingly … racism!

Who was your childhood hero?

– There is a Persian children’s book called “The Little Black Fish”. My father used to read to me. That fish was my hero! Defy the regime or the strict limits imposed on it.

What do you do when you go out?

– Then I drink some rose wine or beer, and have a sigg and a kebab. If not to calm me down. Then I do portraits of great people. I have the Elsa Laula pearl!

Pearls? Like in kindergarten, with irons and stuff?

– Well, a little more professional. And with double-sided tape.

By the way, how much do you take in the bank?

– Oh, I don’t have a number, I don’t do anything special. But I am strong. 20 maybe? It is small?

If Carl von Linné is on the bench, can you do a little more?

– Yeah, so I’ll probably get 30, sure.
