Tax refugee Benn Eidissen believes that the Tax Administration distinguishes between the south and the north – NRK

– When they choose to activate these regulations, I identify with that. I have always had an orderly relationship with the tax authorities.

Benn Eidissen, on the other hand, is not very fond of Tax Administration today. On Wednesday, he confirmed to NRK that he would report that he would be moving back to Bodø, from Bø in Vesterålen.

The millionaire first moved to Vesterål municipality because they lowered the estate tax. It would then help invest in new projects, which would attract more people to the north.

But after the section chief of the Tax Administration said that they are following more closely the cases that have been in the media image, Eidissen affirms that he will return to Bodø.

– Instead of you having that control freak over you, it’s just to say that I won’t live in Bø anymore. When they activate these regulations, which they don’t have when it comes to “søringer”, I choose to bear the consequences, he says.

Reject dormant regulations

It is not clear exactly who will benefit from not following the regulations of the Tax Administration.

– I know people who have business interests much greater than I do and who have collected taxes in other places than where they have lived. But that’s the way the world is and I identify with that.

The head of section in the Tax Administration’s legal department, Lene Ringså, says they cannot comment on individual cases. But that Eidissen proposal is not at stake.

– The main rule is that you must be a resident of the municipality and in the address where you spend the most night. These rules have been administered by the Tax Administration since we took over the population registry in 1991, he says.

She rejects that this is neither a “sleep regulation” nor something they “activate” in light of the attention Bø has received. The population registry is a trust-based scheme, but they also verify information that they believe may be fictitious.

– The tax administration also receives a large amount of advice each year that we review and follow up where we see the need. Our impression is that each of us presents correct information because it is of interest both to us and to society.

– Why pay taxes to the municipality in which you live the most?

– It is natural, for example, that the inhabitants use municipal services where they live most. Therefore, it is necessary that the municipality in question receives the income to cover the expenses.

If fictitious information is provided, the authorities can intervene.

– If someone has reported a fictitious transfer to evade taxes, it may be relevant that the Tax Administration sanctions, for example, with additional tax.

Will still invest

Just because Eidissen does not tax Bø does not mean that he has given up the dream of contributing.

He says he still wants to keep his property, which he bought for 8 million crowns. In addition, it will continue to work so that more people contribute.

– With a municipality so conducive to business that it has the coast, nature and everything, there are great opportunities if the right people come in and collaborate with those who lived there before.

– But you said that you should invest what you saved in taxes in society, are you still going to do it?

– I said that I should invest as much what I saved as more. I have bought a property that I do not intend to sell, at least not immediately. We still have to invest in Bø, Eidissen promises.

The mayor of Bø in Vesterålen, Sture Pedersen, is not concerned that this means a millionaire flight from the municipality.

– I fully understand what Benn has done. Now, there were three new engines that wrote to me today so I estimate there are about 15-20 new engines with some fortune. I am very happy with the situation so far.
