OBERSTDORF / OSLO (VG) Marius Lindvik (22) took the podium after the Oberstdorf drama. But it was in pain. The night before the inaugural race at Hoppuka, I was in the dentist’s chair.

Karl Geiger won the race and became the first German winner in the opening race at Hoppuka since 2015. He won against Polish superstar Kamil Stoch. Lindvik was third, while Halvor Egner Granerud finished in a slightly disappointing fourth place.

– It was nice to be on the podium again. The jump applauded, says Marius Lindvik to VG.

He hasn’t had it easy lately with a lot of pain in his wisdom tooth, confirms national team coach Alexander Stöckl. It started at home before Hoppuka. On Monday, Lindvik had to go to the dentist again.

– I have had an inflammation in a wisdom tooth. The pain varies and I take painkillers. So far so good. But I had to go to the dentist here in Oberstdorf on Monday night, says Lindvik.

Confirm that there has been little sleep. But that he like the good jump. And one more thing; is on the podium for the fourth time in a row in a race at Hoppuka. He won the New Year’s jump race in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. He repeated the business in Innsbruck and came third in Bischofshofen.

On Tuesday night he returned to the podium. Obviously, he was proud of that in the cold Bavarian night.

– I know jumping is enough. Now it’s just a matter of moving on, says Lindvik, who became the big favorite of the Norwegians in the previous edition of the German-Austrian jump with second place overall.

Halvor Egner Granerud was 11 points behind Karl Geiger. It certainly didn’t go according to plan. The Asker jumper had five wins in a row before the race at Schattenbergbakken. And he is the supreme leader of the World Cup.

– It’s the “worst season”, tangent to the worst I’ve done this year, says Halvor Egner.

Smiled a little the the declaration. Three-fourths and five first places, he figures in the World Cup accounts so far in the 2021 season. Expectations are through the roof before Hoppuka.

But he did not get good conditions in the first half. Ninth place, and in arrears, but moved up five places. Now it’s about catching up with Geiger, and getting revenge for the gold lost in the World Ski Championships by flying in Planica, who smoked with just 0.5 points.

– There were two decent jumps, but then the result will be as is. I’m hanging out 11 points to Geiger is not that much. I can’t bear the blame for the wind. But I had by far the worst conditions of the best in the final round, and I am glad that we are moving to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where I like the terrain much more, says Egner Granerud.

Both Norwegians are therefore in the top tier of the overall winner at Hoppuka after the first race. Great for Norway. It’s been 14 years since the last win (Anders Jacobsen).

Daniel André Tande was the last Norwegian to advance to the final round. It ended as number 22.

– All I know is that it’s a shame, Tande tells NRK.

Robert Johansson did not get off to a good start at Hoppuka. In difficult conditions, he landed at 115.5 meters and did not qualify for the final round. It became number 39.

Neither Johann André Forfang (number 35) nor Sander Vossan Eriksen (number 50) advanced to the second round.
