Gjert Ingebrigtsen didn’t like that 18-year-old Jakob Ingebrigtsen wanted to live with his girlfriend Elisabeth Asserson in the winter after double gold at the European Championships in Berlin. There was a crisis in the family, reveals mother Tone Ingebrigtsen in a new book entitled “Always a mother.”

Gjert Ingebrigtsen’s book “The Art of Raising a World Champion” became a bestseller in 2018. Now it is mother Tone who brings us to life in what is a completely ordinary and extremely unusual family.

Tone Ingebrigtsen told VG during Thursday’s book launch in Oslo that his father and successful coach, Gjert, did not like the fact that his son wants to move in with his Elisabeth. It turned into a stale situation where Jakob threatened to move in with her to another apartment in Sandnes if they didn’t get the basement apartment with Tone and Gjert.

– Gjert thought about sports. I was hoping they could wait until they finished high school, says Tone Ingebrigtsen.

– Was there a crisis in the family?

– Yes it was. I think it was terrible when everything was fixed in our house, and Jakob threatened to leave the nest, says Tone.

– In the winter of 2018/2019, Jakob wanted to live with Elisabeth. He was
She was only 18 years old, had not finished high school yet, and became a strong
conflict around this at home, it is stated in the book, which Tone Ingebrigtsen has written in collaboration with Kristin M. Hauge.

– I think Jakob argued well against Gjert. He calmly explained how, with his 200 days of travel a year and training twice a day, he wanted to make the most of his free time and his time with Elisabeth.

Mamma Ingebrigtsen further writes that she “emphasized how delicious it was
been putting her in his life, how now could he think of others
things to run, but at the same time get support for what I was doing.

– Gjert is an angry man, but he doesn’t have to be. It often feels
I think he has a “no” as a built-in automatic response. He is often so overworked, so concerned that runners will succeed with their overall goals, that he struggles under pressure from his surroundings and himself, writes Tone Ingbrigtsen, continuing:

– It has probably gotten a bit smoother over the years, but from the outside it may seem
not that way. I know it has been seen more than hard on television, like then Gjert
ordered Elisabeth to travel directly home from us to her because she
I had a cold. At that time they were so young and they were in love and they didn’t think about it.

The mother also reveals how Jakob finally managed to convince Gjert:

“I need someone to love to achieve balance in life,” said Jakob.
That phrase hit Gert’s heart. Almost overnight, he changed his mind about how “dangerous” boyfriends were for his efforts to run. Finally, Gjert saw with his own eyes that living together did not affect Jakob’s achievements.

Because Elisabeth doesn’t take away energy. She adds energy to it, writes Tone Ingebrigtsen.

During the Sports Gala in January 2019, Jakob and Elisabeth met at DnB Arena. Gjert said at the time to VG:

– There have been discussions about it, but we are pragmatists far beyond what we think we should be. But they seem to be doing well. We have raised people to be responsible and they happen to be.

When VG asked if it was good to become a partner, Elisabeth replied to both:

– Yes!

Gjert and Tone Ingebrigtsen had their first child, out of a total of seven, when she was 17 and he was 22.

In his book “The Art of Raising a World Champion”, Gjert Ingebrigtsen admitted that he had faced the news that his son Henrik would become a father, very badly.

– Are you a complete idiot or? so.

– Are you trying to destroy everything we have built by having a young man in the middle of the investment ?, was the immediate reaction of Gjert Ingebrigtsen according to the book.

Additionally, she writes that she called Tone to tell her about the outbreak and admitted that she may not have chosen the right words.

– As a father, I was very happy to be a grandfather again. But as a coach, I thought it was anything but a good, sensible decision, the book says.

Henrik Ingebrigtsen and his wife Liva Eie Børkja became parents for the first time on Christmas Day 2016.
