– Tonight I want to say some words that I want you to take with you to the winter darkness. During this year, the world has changed before our eyes.

This is how the Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löfven, began his extraordinary speech to the people. Such a speech to the people has only occurred three times before in Swedish history.

The reason is the situation of the crown in Sweden.

The Prime Minister said that both Sweden and the entire world have faced a gigantic challenge due to the pandemic, and that everyone has had to give up a lot of love.

– And tonight, at the end of November 2020, it is clear that it will be a while before we can return to normal. So once again I will ask you something very difficult, but absolutely necessary, said Löfven.

He said the decline in infection the country experienced this summer was a small break and that the pandemic is now returning to our eastern neighbors.

– Human health and life are still in danger, and the danger is increasing. More and more people are infected, more and more intensive care units are used to care for very sick covid patients, more and more people die.

Löfven: – What we do wrong now, we suffer from the side

Löfven asked the Swedish people to remember that more than 6,000 people have already died from the crown in Sweden. He also said that around all those who have died, there are some who have lost a parent, a loved one or a loved one.

The Swedish Prime Minister also asked people to remember overworked health and sanitation workers who struggle day and night to care for the sick.

– What we as a country are doing wrong now, we will have to suffer on the side. What we are doing right now, we will enjoy later. What we do now will affect what the Lucia and Christmas celebrations will be like. Who will continue with us at Christmas. It may sound harsh and brutal, but it is as harsh and brutal as reality.

Löfven said that many in Sweden have been sloppy with infection control during the fall, but now this has started to improve again.

– But everyone must do more. Meet only people you live with. If you live alone, pick a friend or two to hang out, but keep your distance. Stay home at the slightest symptom and wash your hands often and thoroughly. You, as an employer, if possible, make it possible for your employees to work from home, Löfven said before continuing:

– For you who think that everything is dark now. The situation is not without hope. Sweden has been tested, but Sweden will stand firm.

I think it’s getting worse

In a press release before the speech, Löfven had the following to say:

– Sweden has tried hard and it will get worse. I urge the Swedish people to do their duty to reduce the spread of the infection.

According to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, in Sweden about 210,000 infected people have been registered. 6,406 are said to have died in the pandemic. According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University and Worldometer, Sweden has 63.4 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. It places the country in 21st place of all countries in the world. The Expressen newspaper writes that the number of corona infections has risen during the fall. Last week, 31,400 new infections were reported, a 24 percent increase from the previous week.

At the same time, Sweden received a lower rating in an OECD report on how countries in Europe have handled the pandemic. The organization has examined 31 European countries. Informs SVT.
