Ståle Solbakken takes over the Norwegian team.
Ståle Solbakken will take over the national team after Lars Lagerbäck from Monday 7 December 2020.
– I am proud and honored that I was offered the job as the new director of the national team. For me, this is a good time to take over. Lars Lagerbäck and Per Joar Hansen have done a solid job and have developed a foundation that will be exciting to work on. Over time, the NFF has built a good foundation for the national team and I look forward to taking on the task of building a strong team. We will use the time well, because March is fast approaching, says Ståle Solbakken, incoming manager of the A-men national team.
Solbakken was fired from Copenhagen in October. Soon after, he was released as the heir to Lars Lagerbäck.
– I think it’s a good choice. This indicates that Lagerback has retired since Ståle took over as early as Monday. When it comes to Ståle, it is a good choice. “I know Ståle as a qualified professional and a trained leader,” former national team manager Egil “Drillo” Olsen tells VG.

Players were notified of the Solbakken news on Thursday morning.
A clause in the contract with Lars Lagerbäck governs the framework for any resignation during the period of the agreement, and it is this framework that is now followed.
– NFF would like to thank Lars for the work he has done with our best men. During his time, we have produced a new generation of national team players, who together with the veterans promise a good future. With Lars at the helm, we have moved up 40 places in the FIFA rankings. We won our group in the Nations League in 2018 and we were on our way to go one step further this fall, but unfortunately we did not make the European Championship playoff game next year. It’s a national team in the care Ståle now takes over and will develop further, says NFF football president Terje Svendsen.
It appears in a press release from the Norwegian Football Association.
VG updates the case.
