Ståle Solbakken (52) has finished as coach at FC Copenhagen.

The Danish club states this on its own website.

According to the press release, the reason is that the club has not delivered results at a satisfactory level in the Super League in 2020.

– Ståle is without comparison the most successful manager in club history with an impressive list of results. Everyone at the club owes Ståle a huge thank you for the enormous effort he has put into the club and the results he has created. However, we must affirm that the results in 2020 have not been satisfactory, and we are now assuming the consequences of that, says the chairman of the board, Bo Rygaard, in the press release.

After four games this season, Copenhagen is in ninth place in the table. In all four games, the team won one, played a draw and lost two games.

– It is far below our ambitions. We want to be the best team in Denmark and play group matches in Europe. We believe that the time has come for a change. It’s one of the hardest decisions of my life, Rygaard says at a news conference on Saturday.

Last season, the club finished in second place, nine points behind league champion Midtjylland.

Solbakken’s assistant coach Bård Wiggen also had his last day of work at the capital club.

The chairman of the FCK board of directors says it has been a difficult decision for the club to take on both professionally and emotionally, but that the club used to think well.

– We think this is the best for FCK in the situation we find ourselves in, says Rygaard.

Earlier this month, Solbakken responded to the criticism with a tirade to the Danish Eurosport:

Former player William Kvist and U19 coach Hjalte Bo Nørregaard take over, with the latter as head coach.

Ståle Solbakken has been with FC Copenhagen for three terms. He first played in the years 2000–2001, but had to retire after cardiac arrest, which lasted seven minutes, in a training session in March 2001.

He then had his first stint as manager from 2006 to 2011, before returning in 2013. Solbakken has coached FCK for a total of eight league titles in Denmark. The highlight was still when the club in 2010/11 passed from the group stage in the Champions League.

He was introduced in November 2009 as the next coach of the Norwegian national team as of January 1, 2012, but never managed to start in that position after becoming FC Cologne coach in May 2011.

After just a year in Germany, he was fired there and then, in May 2012, he became Wolverhampton’s manager. After disappointing results, he finished that job in January 2013.

Solbakken was again sought out as coach of the Norwegian national team in 2017, but after several weeks of talks, he decided to say no thanks and instead complete his contract with FC Copenhagen.

VG national team commentator Knut Espen Svegaarden wrote on Friday that “if Lagerbäck is unsuccessful, then there is a man in Copenhagen who should be the next coach of the Norwegian national team, whether in 2021 or no later. late 2022 “.

Despite the weak results this season, Danish BT characterizes Saturday’s news as a ‘big shock’, while competitor Ekstra Bladet has found its most important war types.

VG couldn’t get a comment from Ståle Solbakken.

VG updates the case.
