Squeezing creates reactions: these contagion measures save them

On Wednesday, Joe Biden (78) was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. There was a lot of excitement, and during the opening ceremony on Capitol Hill, several people hugged.

This has caused some to react on social media.

– I also wondered about that. But we saw that they all had a mask, and then you don’t get that close. It may be crucial, says social medicine professor Steinar Westin at NTNU to Dagbladet.

– Does that mean we can safely squeeze in masks here at home?

– In.

By the way, January 21 is World Squeeze Day.

Westin emphasizes that the hugs were not intense, but careful, and that it may be a contributing factor to this going well, and that the most intense hugs and kisses were reserved for family members.

– In Europe, who are now raised in infection control, we are very surprised by what we see. But since it was just gently squeezing and bandaging, I say may Go well.

Medical virology professor Rebecca Jane Cox points out that this was day and night because of how Donald Trump has behaved at events.

– Here, everyone wore face masks and complied with infection control to the best of their ability. The population did not attend the inauguration either, they followed it from their screens. Much has been done to prevent infection, he tells Dagbladet.

Steinar Westin notes that it is Biden and the Democrats who have gained support for the use of face masks, something we saw little in the United States under Trump’s leadership.

– They have lived with Trump, who handled the pandemic like a savage, and many were unfamiliar with infection control. More than 400,000 Americans have already died. It’s a disaster and it takes a lot to change the miserable culture of infection control.

Biden, 78, has been vaccinated against the coronavirus. However, George W. Bush (74) and Bill Clinton (74) have not been vaccinated without preventing them from squeezing. Both are at risk of contracting covid-19.

– What kind of signal does it give that the elite are tightening in the middle of a pandemic?

– The most important sign is that everyone had a mask. It is a radical change. People sat at a distance on the grass and various contagion measures were taken. I think this is going well.

Rebecca Jane Cox believes that Biden sent a clear signal to the Americans.

– Joe Biden pointed out that if we want to control the pandemic, we must follow the rules.

Cox also points out the use of masks.

“Until now, there have always been some who have not used a bandage, especially among Republicans, but now we saw for the first time that everyone was wearing a bandage,” Cox told Dagbladet.

– Even Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley wore masks. With that, they pointed out that the rules have changed and that they have accepted Joe Biden as president.

She believes this sends a clear new example to Republicans.

Westin highlights the fashion for face masks in the United States, where, among others, First Lady Jill Biden designed the mask after the outfit.

– It is lovely to see and it is a good sign that they turn it into something more than just an annoyance. I think it is a great advance for its use in the United States. An important infection control measure.

The professor points out that most of the participants in the opening ceremony were Democrats, and that they probably lived more carefully before the event.

– This is an assembly that is well informed and has been lived carefully beforehand. So, the probability of infection is low among them.

Country artist Garth Brooks, a Republican, dropped the bandage. He sang “Amazing Grace” during the opening, but was also seen squeezing several afterwards. Among them is former President George W. Bush.

Singing is known as an activity that has a high risk of spreading infections.

The photos also show him shaking hands with new President and Vice President Kamala Harris. Both of them, like most of the others, wore gloves during the event. This gets Westin’s attention.

– When wearing gloves, skin contact is reduced. So the risk of infection is also lower.
