Singer Emil Solli-Tangen, known as “Kompani Lauritzen” and now “Stjernekamp”, has mourned the death of his friend while preparing for the first broadcast of “Stjernekamp”.
On TV 2, he tells that a friend from the skydiving community was killed in a base jumping accident, and that he recorded a song that was played at his funeral on Friday. Solli-Tangen was unable to attend the funeral, but followed it via streaming.
On Sunday, the 29-year-old wrote on Instagram that he dedicated his first “Star Wars” appearance to his friend, with the song “To Where You Are” by Josh Groban.
– Yesterday was a bit emotional. On Friday I said goodbye to a friend who died suddenly two weeks ago, and yesterday I dedicated the song to him, he wrote on Instagram.
Emotional
After the 29-year-old performed on the “Star Wars” stage on Saturday night, he was clearly marked.
– It was incredibly beautiful. You’re good? I saw you were a bit stuck there, host Kåre Magnus Berg told Solli-Tangen.
The singer decided not to explain why he was excited during the live broadcast, but instead responded to this on Instagram after the show.
On Monday morning, TV 2 spoke with Solli-Tangen. When asked why he didn’t tell about the emotional undertones in primetime on the state channel, the answer was clear.
– I didn’t want it to be an excuse for something. He didn’t want any sympathy. That was not the important thing to me. I just wanted to say goodbye to my friend in my own way, and at the same time give something to his family.
Solli-Tangen writes on Instagram that she doesn’t care about the roll of the dice she received. He got a 3 roll of NRK and VG, while viewers were more satisfied and gave him a 4 roll of VG.
NRK wrote that “the song is definitely not the most interesting in the world, and probably not particularly suitable as an introductory song for a voice as good as Emil’s. Deep and controlled, but sadly a bit boring.
– Exactly in this scenario, I couldn’t care about the dice rolls. I am proud to have managed to finish the song. I remember the samples, so I hadn’t said anything about the deaths of those on set or in production. They asked me to put even more emotion into the song, but I couldn’t and had to stop rehearsing because the emotion prevailed. Then I had to tell those in the production that this was a song that I dedicated to a friend, he tells TV 2.
Talent
Solli-Tangen has long been a household name in the opera community.
At age 19, he was admitted to the Bachelor’s Program for Singers at the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo. Two years later, he was admitted to the Oslo State Opera Academy, as one of the youngest contenders of all time.
He has also participated twice in the Melodi Grand Prix, the most recent with his brother Didrik Solli-Tangen (33) in 2020, with the song “Out of Air”.
Next Saturday, the Melodi Grand Prix is precisely the main theme. Solli-Tangen wants to keep the emotion going and therefore does not want to say which song he will sing. It may still reveal that it will be a demanding song.
– I will be shown a completely different side of myself on Saturday, but I will not have a powder pack of a song, but I will show other qualities. I save the violent tones for a bit later and hope to move on. I do many different musical genres and I feel at home in several of them. I hope to see more in the future.
