Skoda’s electric SUV launched

Skoda had the official launch of the Enyaq iV electric car on Tuesday night. Most of the things are already known about the car, including that it will be available in five different versions with different battery packs and traction variants.

Until launch, the car has only been shown in a slightly camouflaged version. Now the car that will go on sale is shown.

The price starts at 348,520 crowns for the cheapest version, iV 50. The iV 60 costs from 408,520 crowns and the iV 80 costs from 449,520 crowns.

Enyaq iV 80X, which has four-wheel drive, will cost from 478,520 crowns. Pricing for the RS edition with slightly more vibrant performance is not known at the time of this writing.

An overview of what distinguishes the different editions can be seen in the table further down in the article.

There is no doubt that this is very important to the Czechs. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš was present to attend the launch of Skoda’s first MEB-based electric car. By the way, this will be the only MEB car made outside of Germany.

Since the car has been shown in light camouflage, it’s no wonder what the car actually looks like. Perhaps the most surprising element is how Skoda has chosen to implement the lighting at the front of the car. Here’s a strip of light that extends over the grille, between the headlights. These items are so far in the wind in today’s automotive world.

The first models to arrive are the so-called “Founders Edition”, which is a fully equipped version of the car. There are 1895 copies available, and they come in Enyaq iV 60 and 80 trim levels. It comes in silver or black, and with 21-inch wheels.

Unknown when all-wheel drive is available

It will be possible to order a car shortly, but the entry-level model will only be available later, according to information from German media.

It is also possible to configure the car as you like, so the starting price can quickly increase by several tens of thousands if you want the entry-level model with parking sensor, reversing camera, electric child lock, metallic paint, comfort package and the other offered in the optional list.

The heat pump is not available in the cheapest version, but it is standard equipment of the iV60 and included. The entry-level model is also not available with automatic high beam, file holder, tail assist, various driving profiles, or LED lights, to name a few. It also comes with steel wheels as standard.

So we would think that this is not the variant that Skoda will sell the most in Norway.

The key specifications were previously known and remain as follows:

Towing up to 1400 kg

The Enyaq iV RS comes with an electric tow bar and can pull up to 1400 kg. However, the cheaper version does not come with a trailer hitch. It’s unclear if the RS edition will get a chance, but we’ll assume it will come in this one too. The trailer hitch costs 9,800 extra crowns on the iV60, 80 and 80X models.

As is well known, MEB is the Volkswagen Group’s first purely battery-electric car platform and forms the basis for cars such as VW ID.3, ID.4, Audi Q4 E-Tron, and indeed also the Ocean electric SUV. by Fiskers.

Enyaq is the second MEB car to be shown in the production version, after the ID.3. The head of the company calls it a “real milestone.” And that’s all that can be agreed: so far, Skoda’s electric car offering has consisted of the Citigo-e electric car, which is the Skoda variant of the new VW e-Up.

The car has, like VW ID.3, permanent connection to the Internet. It gives you, among other things, up-to-date traffic information and maps, but also access to software updates without having to go through a Skoda workshop.

Skoda’s electric car strategy is basically the same as in the rest of the Volkswagen Group. They offer not just a car, but a home charging solution as well, and you can subscribe to a charging service called “My Skoda Power Pass” to charge on the road.
