OBERSTDORF / OSLO (Dagbladet): On Wednesday, the Italian Ski Federation confirms that it will not participate in the remaining exercises of the World Cup in Oberstdorf and leaves the championship. The reason is several positive tests on the support system.

On Wednesday morning, Dagbladet receives confirmation from sources close to the Italian community that all three teams, jumping, combined, cross-country skiing, have returned home. The teams must have lived in the same hotel and the infection must have spread throughout the hotel.

A total of several positive tests will be discussed, where the first will come from the jumper Jessica Malsiner. The last two to test positive have not been to the stadium area in Oberstdorf and will not be athletes, Dagbladet reported.

The Italians are said to have lived to themselves in a hotel about a mile outside of Oberstdorf.

Several members of the community of jumpers have been infected, on Wednesday morning the message arrived that Halvor Egner Granerud is infected.

Norway is taking action

After the infection became known around the jumps, the Norwegian national cross-country ski team took action. The announcement of the women’s relay team, which will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, has now been switched to fully digital.

– Seen in light of today’s events, writes media manager Gro Eide in a press release.

There should be no concern of infection in cross country equipment.

– They’re just security measures, Eide tells Dagbladet.

Disappointing world cup

Italy has no medals in this year’s championship. His biggest cross-country star Federico Pellegrino disappointed in the sprint when he became number 11. He had gold and silver in the same exercise the last two championships.

There is a 15 kilometer single freestyle start on Wednesday for men, as well as relays for both sexes, 30 kilometers for women and 50 kilometers for men.

Italy has four runners signed up to start the distance on Wednesday. They are Stefano Gardener, Giandomenico Salvadori, Davide Graz and Mirco Bertolina.
