The director of the Molde, Ole Erik Stavrum, reports to VG, and Lillestrøm also confirms the sale on the club’s website. Thus, Sigurdarson Molde will be a player for the third time in his career, if the medical exam goes well. The 29-year-old also manages to join Molde’s Europa League squad for Hoffenheim’s matches later this month.

From what VG knows, the transfer fee can reach around 3.5 million, but part of the sum will likely require Sigurdarson to pay in the blue jersey.

– There has been dialogue and negotiations for several days. It has landed at a level that allows us to reinforce the stable towards the start of the series. A solution that was fine, although we would have liked to have a player like Bergmann in the stable, Lillestrøm president Morten Kokkim tells VG.

Surprisingly, the club brought Sigurdarson to Åråsen on a six-month contract last summer. He was involved in helping Lillestrøm rise again from the Obosligaen, but only managed one match from the start and six innings, and scored one goal:

Mold brought to bed by LSK’s price requirements for Sigurdarson

On New Year’s Eve, LSK presented that the Icelander had extended his contract and was in the comeback season at the Eliteserien, but only a month later he became a Molde player.

There was little doubt that Lillestrøm didn’t really want to sell his star forward, at least not within the Elite Series. But the club and the player had a common understanding that the club would not get in the way if an interesting club entered the field.

However, it took Molde and Lillestrøm some time to agree. The situation was further aggravated by the fact that Molde understood that the Icelander could opt for a low transfer fee, and first approached Lillestrøm with the belief that the player could sign for little money.

Throughout the weekend and Monday, the clubs have negotiated an agreement. Financially, Sigurdarson’s “return” can be seen as a relatively good store for Lillestrøm: Kokkim confirms that external contributors paid his salary for 2020. In other words, the Icelander’s expenses from the club’s regular budget are limited to January salary. And now they receive millions in temporary sums.

Sigurdarson, who is also in his late 30s, is also making a pay jump at Molde.

– Now he (Sigurdarson) must respond to the desire to go. But he received an offer that was significantly higher than what we were able to offer him, says Kokkim, referring to Molde’s salary offer.

– Is all the money from this sale going to strengthen the stable?

– A good deal. So it is up to sports to find who to choose. But this is money that we have not budgeted with him, so it is clear that we will spend most of it on strengthening the barn, guarantees the president of the Lillestrøm council.

– Has Sigurdarson pressed to go through a transition?

– He has behaved professionally and appropriately, says Kokkim.

Molde coach Erling Moe has lost last year’s top scorer Leke James (sold to Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia), while Ohi Omoijuanfo loses Hoffenheim games as a result of surgery. Now Moe has a new striker in his place, who stands out with 31 goals in 53 Molde matches from his previous stints at Aker Stadium.

– We are very happy that this worked, and it gradually became a long story before he was ready for us. We know Björn, we know what he represents and we know what he can bring on the pitch and in the locker room. He’s a guy and a player who fits the FK Mold, as we think, says head coach Erling Moe.
