The Islamic Council of Norway believes that the burning of the Quran should not be protected by freedom of expression. They also ask the government to clarify what are unacceptable statements.
According to Klassekampen, the Islamic Council of Norway (IRN) offers opinions on the burning of the Koran in a contribution to the government’s work on an action plan against Muslim hatred. This plan is expected later this fall.

– But we still believe that we must discuss what freedom of expression should be used for. We believe that it should be used to seek the truth and promote human rights and a good society for all. Do not intimidate or harass vulnerable groups and minorities. It is regrettable that freedom of expression is abused for illegitimate purposes and a violation of the human dignity of others, says Diriye.
