She could be one of the most powerful in America.

– Amy Coney Barrett is a rock star to many conservatives, says American commentator Eirik Bergersen about the woman who is the big favorite to occupy the Supreme Court position from Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was a cult icon for the liberal Americans.

Barrett received his law degree from the prestigious University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Here he also began teaching at age 30.

The now 48-year-old mother of seven is today a recognized judge at the second highest level of the federal judicial system, in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

She was considered a strong candidate for a vacant seat on the Supreme Court in 2018. At the time, the position went to Brett Kavanaugh. Trump later said he would secure the seat of Barrett Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

– Filling the vacancy with a young woman is a great way for Donald Trump to balance a tribute to Ginsburg, at the same time that many accuse him of abuse of power by forcing the nomination in the run-up to the election campaign, Bergersen says.

Opponent of abortion

Abortion is basically a hot topic in American politics, and the temperature is rising even slightly now that there is a vacant Supreme Court seat.

– In the US, there are some areas that lack legislation, including the issue of abortion. And then there are the Supreme Court rulings that regulate these issues. So those who sit down and decide this in the Supreme Court become very important politically, Bergersen explains.

Catholic Barrett opposes abortion. Many on the political left fear that if he becomes a Supreme Court justice, he will strengthen the right to free abortion. But when asked in 2017 if he always saw abortion as immoral, he did not give a clear answer.

“My personal views on this or other issues will not affect the way I perform my duties as a judge,” he said at the time.

Constitutional Conservative

The Constitution of the United States was adopted in 1787 and is one of the oldest in the world still in use. This means that it must be interpreted.

The liberal Ruth Bader Ginsburg was in favor of interpreting the constitution in light of the times in which we live now. The woman who is in the best position to replace her is from another school.

Barrett believes that the constitution must be interpreted in light of when it was written and that the job of the Supreme Court justices is to find out and judge according to the original meaning of those who wrote the text.

Assessing State Tipping Judges

Barrett met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, confirming his favorite stamp. But Trump has said he should speak to other candidates as well.

Cuban-American judge Barbara Lagoa stands out as another favorite.

– She’s amazing. She is Hispanic. She is a wonderful woman from what I have heard. I don’t know her. We love Florida. So she has a lot. She’s very smart, Trump said of her in an interview with “Fox and Friends.”

“Barbara Lagoa can intervene from the sidelines to ensure Trump’s transitional state, Florida, in the elections,” says US commentator Eirik Bergersen.

He points out that a Lagoa nomination could secure Trump more Latin American votes in Florida, which is one of the crucial states in the Nov.3 election.

Two other candidates, who are also likely to be high on Trump’s list, also come from major rocker states. The White House has confirmed that the president is considering Joan Larsen, who is a judge on a federal appeals court in Michigan. Trump has also hinted that Judge Allison Jones Rushing in North Carolina may be relevant.

Trump has announced that he will announce his nomination next Saturday.
