Alexander Kristoff believes that the cycling season should be removed if there is a danger that cyclists from around the world compete to help the crown virus sprout again, and the world must enter a new period of blockade.
He is slated for a heavily loaded and compressed fall cycling season after corona virus hit the wheels this spring when the International Bicycle Association (UCI) launched its new program on Tuesday. This means, among other things, that the Giro d’Italia and Spain are partly organized at the same time.
UAE pro Alexander Kristoff does not currently know if he is going to ride a Grand Tour, but he is far on the way to the Giro d’Italia, NTB reports. He wants to run the classics.
But if you have to be quarantined to run one day, you’re skeptical.
– If there is a quarantine to travel between countries, it will not work at all. People come from everywhere. Russia is falling behind in the crown epidemic. If it becomes a new circular dance if they carry infection, then it’s not worth it. It will be exciting to see how they solve this, ”Kristoff tells VG.

If cyclists cause contagion as they go from country to country to compete, Kristoff thinks it’s better if they cut the entire season and come back stronger next year.
– If this breaks out again, then everything we’ve done has been in vain. I don’t want a new running of the bulls, where Norway and the world are closed, so it’s better to cut throughout the season, Kristoff tells VG.
Here are some of the main steps in the revised UCI plan:
- Tour of Poland: 5-9. August
- Milano-Sanremo: August 8
- Tour de France: August 29 and 20. September
- Tour of Italy: October 3 to 25
- Flanders Round: October 18
- Spain Round: October 20-8. November
- Paris-Roubaix: October 25

He also believes that the new plan will present great challenges, since many of the trips are made in the countries most affected by the crown in Europe, such as Italy, France and Spain.
– Different countries may have different quarantine restrictions. We will not escape any type of quarantine. There will be no free flow between national borders in Europe, it will not happen. And it is not certain that all the country’s authorities approve the plan that has now been established. It is not yet clear what will go and in what format, says Hagen.
– It means that it will be difficult to mount more than one Grand Tour. It is possible to alternate both the Tour de France and Spain, but it will not be possible to alternate between them, says Hagen.
