The cooperation agreement between the municipality of Trondheim and the International Ski Federation (FIS) will be exempt from public access until it is signed. The presidency now postpones the World Cup decision until Thursday.
On Monday, VG mentioned that Trondheim politicians had not seen the content of the global agreement with the FIS the day before giving its approval to the World Ski Championships in Trondheim in 2025.
On Tuesday morning, the same day that the presidency decided whether to give the green light to the Trondheim World Cup, the politicians finally agreed to the agreement. Adressa now announces that the WC’s decision has been postponed until Thursday.
– It is a global agreement that takes time to read and we will postpone it beyond Thursday, says the conservative Ingrid Skjøtskift to Adressa.
The same newspaper also reports that the very broad agreement between the FIS and the municipality will be exempt from public opinion. This causes the aforementioned Joint Change to react:
– Nor do I think it is justifiable that it is exempt from public access. This is a deal that affects the economy of Trondheim, and we want a deal that is good and contains no additional expenses and obligations.
CFO Olaf Løberg informs the newspaper that the parties have decided that the agreement will be treated confidentially until the parties have signed it.
– I can assure you that this has been thoroughly reviewed, and that we can bet on this contract with the economy that is there. Financial conditions for the organizer have also improved considerably, and the grant is now NOK 30-40 million higher than at the previous crossroads. There is more security now than ever before, says City Manager Morten Wolden, according to Adressa.
Trondheim was the only candidate for the World Ski Championships in 2025. After politicians have been asked to give the green light on Thursday, the FIS will formally hand over the event to Trondheim as early as Saturday. The same day the final agreement between the parties will be signed.
When Norway worked on the application that would end with the Olympic Games in Oslo in 2022, VG gained access to a highly controversial list of demands from the IOC, which among other things required to meet the King, have access to alcohol in stadiums , as well as a host of other matters.
Some have singled out the uproar around the list of demands as a contribution to the Olympic process that was halted in 2014.
Trondheim City Manager Morten Wolden defends the recent World Cup deal, which is not publicly available:
– First of all, this contract is a technical document with, among other things, where the journalists will be during the jumping race. There are no white tablecloths or tall champagne glasses on the contract either. This is not an Olympiad, but a World Cup. The economic aspects have been clarified through the cooperation agreement between NSF and the municipality. We expect to make a profit, and how these profits will be distributed has already been negotiated, Wolden tells Adressa.
