Dr. Rick Bright testified Thursday in the House of Representatives about the response of US authorities to the coronavirus. There he was very critical.
– If we cannot improve our response now, I am afraid the pandemic will worsen. Without better planning, 2020 could be the darkest winter in modern history, Bright said.
After being expelled from the executive position in April by a federal health authority that developed the corona vaccine, Bright said it happened because he has been critical of spending money on medications without scientific evidence.
Bright said, among other things, that he was critical of the use of anti-malaria drugs, which President Donald Trump has recommended for coronary heart disease.
– We have to be honest with the American people. Americans deserve the truth. Truth must be based on science. We have the best scientists in the world. Let’s lead and talk without fear of revenge, Bright said.
– Our country was not as well prepared as we should have been, and could have been. Some investigators alerted the first warning signs, but they were ignored. Some pages of our pandemic plan were ignored by some in management, Bright said.

He believes that the authorities’ response has been unsuccessful
– We could have done better. Bright said these are critical steps we don’t take on time.
Bright said he asked to increase production of samples, masks and respirators, and was concerned that they would not have enough in January when the virus began to spread. That message did not lead to any action by the authorities.
Bright then claims that he was told that his notifications were causing problems and that he was therefore withdrawn from important meetings.
Before the hearing, Trump came out on Twitter, referring to Bright as disgusting and disrespectful.
– I do not know the so-called announcer Rick Bright, I have never met him or heard of him. To me, he is just a dissatisfied employee who is neither loved nor respected by the ponies I have spoken to and who, with his attitude, should no longer work for our government, Trump wrote.
The Trump administration also received criticism from representatives of Congress.
– The government that was supposed to protect the American people has failed. Ordinary Americans have increased when leaders have not. We are the best country in the world, but we have the highest number of deaths and cases. Why? Due to lack of ineffective and late reaction. It cost him lives and he will continue to enjoy life, said Democrat Anna Eshoo, head of the congressional health committee.
She was also highly critical of Bright losing her job and continuing to criticize the Trump administration.
“We cannot have a system whereby authorities kick those who are right and reward those who are wrong,” Eshoo said.
