  • Brann 1-1 Stabæk (0-0)

The last time Brann won a match in the Elite Series was in August. Then they simply beat Stabæk 2-0 at the Nadderud Stadium.

Since that match, Brann has not won an Elite Series match in six league rounds, and tonight the home team was close to suffering another defeat when Stabæk traveled to Brann Stadium.

It was Stabæk’s lightning winger Oliver Edvardsen who scored the first goal of the game when he placed the ball well over Håkon Opdal.

Stabæk appeared to be in full control of the game for a long time, but in the 75th minute Kristoffer Barmen appeared and secured a point for Brann.

At the end of the match, Brann was dangerous up front and chased after the main goal, without success. Thus, the match ends 1-1, and the teams take one point each.

– I think one point for Brann is not enough to calm the nerves in Bergen. By no means a recovery, Eurosport commentator Asbjørn Myhre said.

– In total Stabæk is almost three points behind, said Tor Ole Skullerud after the match.

One point means Brann is five points above Start’s current ranking.

– I’m disappointed. We were terribly inaccurate and we are too cautious when we have a chance to move on. It is also disappointing that there is no greater calm and better quality in the passing game. It was a Hawaiian match that we could never control, Kåre Ingebrigtsen told Eurosport.

The match was Eirik Horneland’s first as Brann’s assistant coach.

God begins

Brann started Sunday’s game better in the pouring rain, led by an obvious Fredrik Haugen. In the fifth minute, he launched a strong free kick into the near corner, but Marcus Sandberg in goal was in control and hit the corner.

Sandberg was not in control when Haugen in the 19th minute received a great blow from 20 meters. The ball screwed into the crossbar and hit him so hard that it bounced all the way to Haugen again. He turned around.

Stabæk took the lead in the match after Brann’s good start and seized several half chances, often behind the left posts. Darren Maatsen had the biggest, but couldn’t get his assent from a good position between the posts.

– Above all I am happy with the first half. We have to make it a bit easier in some situations, Stabæk coach Jan Jönsson told Dplay during the break, and was told to let his team connect immediately.

Leadership goals

In the 51st minute, Yaw-Ihle Amankwah won a head duel and Marcus Antonsson hit a stick in the direction of Edvardsen. Jon-Helge Tveita could have given the visitors a more comfortable lead, if his free kick had gone a little lower. Edvardsen passed and finished cold on Håkon Opdal.

Five minutes later it was Edvardsen who set up Antonsson, who was able to double the lead, but shot straight outside from a good position.

Brann chased the tie and got it in a set pieces quarter before the end. Substitute Gilli Rólantsson took a corner from the right. Daouda Bamba dueled at the nearest post, Petter Strand kicked the ball and Kristoffer Barmen nodded.

The hosts continued to chase in hopes of a winning goal, but Stabæk was closer. Opdal also saved only with substitute Kosuke Kinoshita at the end of the match.
