Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee has died. He turned 78, the company says.

Lee, who turned the South Korean company into a global tech giant, was left bedridden after a heart attack in 2014.
– President Lee died Oct. 25 with his family, including Rep. Jay Y. Lee, by his side, the company claims.
Samsung is by far the largest family group in South Korea, the twelfth largest economy in the world. The company’s turnover corresponds to one fifth of South Korea’s gross domestic product and is therefore an important part of the South Korean economy.
The Lee family directly owns 5 percent of Samsung shares, but controls the group through intricate cross-ownership involving dozens of companies.
