Norwegian national team players Sander Sagosen and Harald Reinkind had a chance to win the Champions League in handball with Germany’s Kiel on Tuesday night.
Before this year’s final, Børge Lund was the only Norwegian to have previously won the men’s Champions League. He did that with Kiel in 2010, against Barcelona.
Norway now has two new tournament winners.
– We fight for this. That is the amazing thing. We are in shit together and we fight and that is why we have the medal. I am incredibly proud of the team, Sagosen tells EHF after the final, adding:
– We had the goal of reaching the top. We show our class. I am proud and tired. It has been a weekend of real roller coaster.
– I’m so tired now, but I’ve dreamed of this since I was five, Sagosen told NTB after the win.
TV 2 handball expert Bent Svele was impressed by what the Kiel Norwegians accomplished in the final.
– Is big. Now we have been in the keerne since 2010. This is very important for Kiel and great for Sagosen and Reinkind, and it is important that more Norwegians sign up, says Svele and adds:

Sander Sagosen was very involved in the final. Five goals, two scorers and two sent-offs were Trøndelag’s actions before the teams went into halftime at 19-16 in favor of Kiel. By the end of the match, the Trøndelag player had scored seven goals and three scorers in the 33-28 win.
– Sagosen went from PSG to Kiel to win the Champions League and play the Bundesliga, and both he and Reinkind have gotten along well. Sagos appear. He has an instinct that is completely unique, says Svele.
Sagosen in the center
In the final, Barcelona waited, which is the most winning team in the history of the tournament with nine titles. The Catalans have beaten Kiel twice this season and were considered favorites in the final.
Sagosen was at the center of events for the first few minutes. He first gave away the penalty before the minute passed. Fortunately for Trøndelag, Barcelona lost and Kiel took the lead. He then made it 2-1 for the Germans before the Norwegian committed a new penalty in the third minute and was sent off. 180 crash seconds.

After a stable opening, Kiel took the lead in the final. Sagosen cut the lead to a 7-5 lead just before ten minutes were played. Then the Trøndelag man was sent off a second time seconds later and thus was only two minutes away from being sent off for the remainder of the match.
Midway through the inning, he made his third on three shots to 10-8. Give tok Barcelona time-out. There, the Barcelona coach ordered the Catalans to attack the 25-year-old Norwegian to get him expelled. In response, Sagosen thundered at 11-9 for Kiel, before the Germans further increased the lead to 13-9.
Harald Reinkind’s first shot on goal was stopped by the Barcelona goalkeeper. Then he hit better when he clinically put the Whites 15-13. A very good round from Kiel finished 19-16 at halftime.
– Tactically wise
After the break, Sagosen increased the German team’s lead to 21-17 within four minutes of the second half. A long shot from the 25-year-old entered the block shortly after and Barcelona reduced the lead to two goals.

But Kiel responded with force and with 14 minutes of entry, Steffen Weinhold gave the Whites a 25-20 lead.
In addition to Sagosen, Kiel can thank goalkeeper Niklas Landin for several important contributions to the historic triumph. The Dane made several brilliant saves at important moments in the match.
– Kiel has been tactically wise. They have played quite a bit seven against six and it is less demanding. Then it goes a little slower. Without a good defense and a goalkeeper you won’t win and Landin has been a winger. It was up to more than 60% in savings percentage in the second half. It’s very impressive, says Svele.
In position 26-21, Harald Reinkind tried, but was stopped by the Barça goalkeeper. The number six of the Germans delivered two scorers in the final.
Sagosen scored twice more when Kiel won 33-28.
